[Ai Haibara Cosplay] Her in the Gothic Dark Night, A Vintage Adventure with a Teddy Bear - Image 1

Regarding the thematic concept of this shoot, the combination of Gothic style and the character's inherent traits was the most noteworthy point to record during the process. When preparing this set of photos, to fit the dark retro atmosphere, a lot of thought was deliberately put into setting up the scene. The dark red velvet curtain in the background with its draping golden tassels, along with the stained glass window faintly filtering light from behind, created a rich and mysterious theater atmosphere.

For the outfit, I chose this off-the-shoulder style pieced together with wine red and black lace, paired with a long beaded necklace to offset the dullness of the dark tones. The wig is her iconic reddish-brown short hair. For the makeup, I focused on outlining the contours of the eyes and brows and wore blue contact lenses, hoping to accurately convey the character's cool detachment through the styling. However, the situation encountered during the shoot was a bit unexpected. When looking back at the raw photos, my close friends sharply commented that when I held the teddy bear and that vintage globe, no matter how I posed, I looked like a big "boss" sitting on a pile of treasure. That casual, cross-legged sitting posture paired with the soft plush toy in hand inexplicably created a strong, cute contrast.

In terms of scene props, the mechanical gear desk clock and metal candlestick in the left foreground carry an inherent, heavy steampunk vibe. The rim lighting hit that brass phonograph, making the entire frame look almost like a nineteenth-century Vintage portrait. To create this lazy composition during the shoot, my body was constantly looking for angles of support; it couldn't look cramped, yet it had to coordinate with the layers of prop placement. The teddy bear provided by the prop team became a magical tool to relieve pressure; holding it in my arms instantly softened my entire state.

Throughout the entire shooting process, I not only had to overcome the constraints of the complex costume but also had to make sure that the red curtain and stained glass window in the background didn't overshadow the subject. The post-processing adjustment of light and shadow also leaned toward restoring the nostalgic feel brought by the warm yellow tones in the film negative. As a shoot that boldly experimented with a Gothic style based on the character's own aura, the entire Cosplay photoshoot went very smoothly. The mixture of coolness and a hint of bewilderment in the final photos perfectly matched the state I wished to present that day. Experimenting with different styles of fan interpretations in a tangible way is truly the most interesting part of cosplay, and it's the driving force that keeps this hobby going.
