When shooting this set of Sandrone photos, I specifically revisited the settings regarding the Seventh Harbinger of the Genshin Impact Fatui, focusing on understanding that precision-mechanical design aesthetic and aloof temperament. Elements revolving around the codename 'Marionette' in the original work are highly recognizable, from the geometric crown on top of the head to the black high collar and the rhombic red gem around the neck—all serving as core focal points for this styling. When trying on this outfit, the first thing I felt was the sense of restraint from the choker. Fitting tightly against the skin and framing the jawline, it actually helped me quickly enter the character's cold state devoid of unnecessary emotion.
Selecting the wig took even longer than expected. This pale ash linen color, combined with light wispy bangs, required meticulous layering to present a distinct, structured curve on camera. The long straight hair on both sides put the hair's drape to the test; any slight frizz would ruin the overall clean and uniform visual feel. For makeup, I tried dampening heavy eyeshadow colors and focused instead on emphasizing facial structure, using subtle shading to contour the eye sockets and nose bridge, making the blue eyes appear clearer and calmer. I chose a natural soft pink for the lips without overdoing it, wanting the character to retain a subtle youthful foundation while conveying a serene demeanor.
As for the outfit, the color-blocking of red, black, white, and gold is extremely sensitive to lighting. The deep black cuff material has a slight reflection, which really tested the studio lighting setup; turning even slightly at an angle would catch bright specular highlights, so I adjusted my posture many times to keep a natural angle between my arms and body. The white chest paneled area features subtle geometric lines—a detailed design hidden in plain sight that aligns perfectly with the character's persona as both a 'mechanism' and an 'operator.' To match this intricate costume, the poses I designed focused mainly on hand gestures.
The hand gesture in this photo is a freeze-frame I'm particularly happy with. The raised hand sits right at the junction of the jaw and collarbone with fingers slightly spread—neither overly flashy nor understated, subtle like controlling invisible threads. The blue eyes gaze straight into the lens without redundant emotion. The fluffy bangs needed to be tidied up repeatedly to avoid blocking the line of sight while maintaining an airy feel in front of the camera. The starburst effects and watermark added to the image act as a subtle filter overlay; although they slightly obscure some base background details, they unexpectedly soften the translucent luster of the ruby.
As for the recent official updates regarding Snezhnaya and the Fatui, to be honest, I read through a lot while preparing for this character. The declaration of 'apologizing for everything' fits the Harbingers' logic perfectly. Sitting in front of the vanity mirror staring at myself, I pondered whether the title 'Marionette' represents not a complete absence of emotion, but rather locking all feelings away inside precise gears and core hubs. Wearing this attire, I tried to portray a sense of 'rigorous elegance' before the lens—my left side bearing ornate yet ice-cold accessories and wig, my right side maintaining a motionless posture. Every movement had to be deliberately thought out, which is perhaps the most direct insight gained from portraying a 'chess master.'
From choosing the character and purchasing wigs and accessories to final makeup testing and shooting, every step involved appreciating the exquisite design of Genshin Impact characters. Recalling the shoot, even in an air-conditioned room, the choker around the neck adhered even tighter due to slight perspiration, which unexpectedly enhanced the sense of realism. After all, as a cosplayer, being able to recreate that oppressive yet silent quality of the character in front of the camera brings an immense sense of achievement. Even the slight wrinkles formed by adjusting the skirt hem repeatedly, or the shadows cast on cheeks by overhead lights, become part of this character's personality—authentic and natural. I look forward to unlocking more possibilities for other Snezhnaya characters in the future and experiencing the joy brought by various cosplay settings.
