[Sparkle Cosplay] Honkai: Star Rail Cherry Blossoms at Night Cosplay Outdoor Shoot Record

Taking advantage of the night to finish this set of night cherry blossoms, the dark-toned background paired with pink flower branches and the reflector brightening up the face perfectly matched this outfit. This time I'm showcasing Sparkle from Honkai: Star Rail, with a costume mainly in red, white, and black, carrying a very distinct modified Japanese style.

Let's talk about the wig and makeup first. The white twin tails are paired with a small red-topped, black-bottomed rabbit-eared top hat on the head. Combined with the wine-red pupils and red eye makeup around the edge of the lenses, this look is very popular in night outdoor photography because the highlights stand out clearly under studio lights. Since the night cherry blossom background easily turns the character's hair and skin tone gray, the makeup deliberately reduced the shadow under the eyes and used red eyeshadow for a bit of blending to make the gaze look more focused.

There are actually many details in the costume part. I really love the outer wide sleeves, which have a subtle printed pattern of a rabbit head, and the edges of the cuffs are embellished with white lace and a red-and-black diamond check pattern. The deep V-neck and black choker design won't look heavy even when worn outdoors, and the off-the-shoulder cut perfectly displays the shoulder and neck lines. There is a very cute white rabbit plush doll decoration on the obi sash, and the long red tassels hanging down sway naturally with the movements during the shoot. The skirt is a multi-layered white pleated miniskirt, making the lower body look light and lively compared to the intricate top.

A special shout-out to the prop in hand. That giant red hand model prop is extremely eye-catching, connected to a black-and-white gold-trimmed bow tie below, with a small golden charm on the handle grip. Slinging it over the shoulder or holding it with one hand instantly fills up the frame, preventing the character from looking too thin under the night scene. The color contrast of the prop itself echoes the red and black blocks on the costume very well.

The feet are paired with white slouch socks and black platform lace-up short boots, along with an asymmetrical black leg strap and pendant. These boots are actually quite heavy, so I had to stabilize my center of gravity when moving around outdoors. However, thanks to the addition of the boots and straps, the lines look very sharp in standing poses. I shot quite a few highly dynamic actions, like lifting one leg or holding the prop and spreading out to both sides. Actually, such large-scale movements require constant angle adjustments; otherwise, the crossbar of the prop easily goes out of frame.

This outdoor photography shoot was actually very tight. Because the depth of field of night cherry blossoms is very shallow, and the branches are interwoven and complex, the flash needed to be hit from the front-side angle of the character to prevent tree shadows from casting onto the face. The tree branches hung quite low, which led to the composition of the second image where I turned sideways to pinch a flower branch, right in time to use the foreground branches to add a sense of framing concealment to the lens, making the atmosphere softer. The entire set of images basically used flash units to provide a relatively hard fill light while retaining the ambient light, which is a fairly direct technique when shooting night cherry blossom themes.

After finishing this set, it actually took quite a while to organize the props. Although that hand model looks visually great, holding it for too long makes the arm sore, and running around in the scene requires caution not to get caught on the cherry blossom branches. The overall final photo effect turned out pretty good. The clean white of the night cherry blossoms combined with the styling dominated by red, white, and black makes the contrast between warm and cold tones very comfortable. With just a simple cleanup of the clutter in the environment, this piece of anime cosplay was ready to go.
