[Firefly Cosplay] Custom Design Style Attempt in Honkai: Star Rail

Considerable thought went into the props and details for this Firefly cosplay featuring a Custom design look.

From deciding on a light, ethereal style early on, the overall outfit incorporated a gradient base of pale cyan and white, enhanced by tulle and sequins to convey translucency. The wig's color transition was specifically adjusted from silver-white to pale blue, pairing with the head bow to suit the overarching concept.

The core visual anchor was the fairy wings mounted on the back. Crafting these translucent wings required not only adjusting frame curvature, but also pressing clear vein textures into the mesh fabric so that they appeared natural without looking heavy on camera. The handheld curved wooden branch prop was intentionally decorated with real botanical elements and bead strands, adding natural, emotive touches that fit the character's atmosphere during shooting.

Lighting on the day of shooting was less than ideal; overcast skies yielded diffused light, which ironically prevented tulle fabric from over-reflecting, creating a soft shooting environment. Shot outdoors at a convention ground, the background contained moving crowds and trees, requiring tight framing to avoid clutter and focus attention on the subject. For posing, I selected a stance holding the prop high with one hand while resting the other at the collar, emphasizing body line extension.

As an original Custom design cosplay outfit, the styling intentionally diverged from official designs, aiming to express another side of the character through personal interpretation. Reviewing shots afterward revealed that the color contrast between wings and hair proved more harmonious than anticipated, offering realistic ethereal charm.

The most challenging phase was wearable fitting, ensuring wings and skirt hem avoided snagging against props or arms. Maintaining balance made posing feel effortless. From prop fabrication to final image output, fine-tuning demanded considerable time, but seeing the final photos made it completely worthwhile.

Humidity at the convention was somewhat muggy, making the layered costume feel slightly heavy, yet posing stability remained unaffected. Beaded hand accessories and skirt sequins subtly caught dim light to add highlights. Intentionally eschewing long staff props for a simple wooden branch aimed to capture a nature-embracing feel. I hope to build on this base to try a night shooting version later, which under venue lighting should yield entirely different textures.

Overall, this photo session served as a delightful experiment, allowing me to gain experience in original Custom design styling and wing prop fabrication. Striving to capture character aura better each time remains an ongoing journey of growth as a cosplayer.
