Today, I shot this Nangong Yu cosplay finished photoshoot representing the Angels of Delusion from Zenless Zone Zero across the backstage and stage areas of the convention.
Starting with styling and makeup: the wig featured black twin-tails with pink gradient streaks, with the pink tips carefully texturized layer by layer. To accommodate the headgear, the bangs were trimmed into a blunt, even style. The floating purple geometric headpiece atop my head was constructed using acrylic sheets and wire frames, accented by pink-and-white horns; to ensure stability on stage, numerous bobby pins were anchored beneath. For makeup, red contact lenses were paired with meticulously blended eye makeup, an expansive wash of pink blush, and false lashes at the outer corners to give my eyes deep, striking dimension in this Anime cosplay look.
The outfit abounds with intricate details. The top is a black leather midriff-baring crop top with white sawtooth trim at the neckline and an oversized pink satin bow across the chest. The arms are fitted with black leather arm sleeves flowing into loose purple fabric with graceful drape. The lower half combines black leather shorts spliced with a purple plaid pleated skirt, cinched by a glossy black belt accented with metallic studs. Sheer black mesh stockings pair with black leather thigh harnesses and straps to accentuate Black stockings and beautiful legs, finished off with black lace-up combat boots to infuse the silhouette with techwear battle flair. The detachable white wings on my back feature mechanical engraved panel lines, catching the stage's purple and blue lights with brilliant luster.
Teaming up with two fellow cosplayers, the three of us together looked exceptionally harmonious. We took group shots on stage and headed over to the backstage lounge bar for instant Polaroids. Photo 2 shows the keepsake we held right after shooting—holding physical film in hand provides a much richer sense of tangible memory than digital files. While our three outfits showcased distinct styles, the color coordination was surprisingly cohesive.
The lighting on stage was phenomenal; as the purple spotlight poured down, the sheen across the leather garments was unmatched. Complemented by the white wing props, the ensemble easily carried off dramatic, bold posing. Posing requires vigilance so the wings and headpiece don't collide; keeping the posture open and poised while highlighting the waist cutout and thigh rings visually elongates proportions, showcasing Black stockings and beautiful legs effortlessly. To deliver the best visuals, we continuously adjusted angles and breathing rhythm during shooting, allowing the pleated skirt hem to flutter with natural flow.
Although this look translated gorgeously on camera, wearing it was undeniably taxing. Putting it on and taking it off demands careful maintenance of the leather to avoid permanent creasing. The waist straps and thigh bands must be adjusted for proper tension, or walking and dancing become rather restricted. The wig also needs regular combing to keep the highlighted ends from tangling. Today's shoot was packed and fulfilling; getting home, I must immediately hang the costume to air out and treat the wig with leave-in conditioner to restore its sleekness.
