[Hu Tao cosplay] NARAKA: BLADEPOINT Cloud Sakura Celestial Maiden: A Complete Photoshoot Analysis Under Cherry Blossom Trees

Documenting the preparation and on-location shooting process for the Cloud Sakura Celestial Maiden outfit of Hu Tao cosplay from NARAKA: BLADEPOINT. This costume features a pink-and-white color palette, with multiple layers of semi-transparent sheer tulle on the outer layer, making it an exquisite match against cherry blossom branches. The costume's waist sash incorporates a golden floral design; when wearing it, the waistline must be cinched snugly without hindering leg movement. The sakura leg straps are wound around in coils, requiring concealed snap fasteners to prevent slipping while walking. For makeup and styling to faithfully recreate the character, I tried a light-blonde-to-pink gradient wig paired with blue colored contacts and distinct pink eye makeup, giving the eyes vivid expression under natural light. Blush was deliberately placed slightly higher to simulate a translucent 2D aesthetic.

The shooting location was chosen in an area densely packed with cherry blossom trees. Since the petals and the costume share similar pink hues, they blend seamlessly yet risk looking visually flat. Therefore, the photographer brought large diffusion soft panels to balance the lighting on my face, retaining the tender pink backdrop without leaving the face shadowed by backlighting. In terms of posing, three main photos were selected: the first photo seated on a tree branch focused on displaying leg lines and the sakura ribbons bound around the legs. To avoid obscuring the legs with the sheer tulle, the skirt hem was gathered up slightly. The angle of holding the folding fan to half-cover the face required repeated fine-tuning to look spirited, slim the facial contour, and ensure my hand didn't block the chest and waistline details. The second and third photos are standing poses, emphasizing the sweeping drape of the wide sleeves and the golden floral waist ornament. Holding the fan required keeping the neck and shoulders steady to maintain clean posture; the golden sakura and red circular ornaments on the waist reflected beautifully in the sunlight, needing careful reflector angling for fill light.

Another challenge of outdoor Cosplay photography is heavy foot traffic, requiring patience for camera spots as passing crowds easily disrupt the frame, which often necessitated adjusting shooting heights. Moreover, natural lighting fluctuates significantly during cherry blossom season, with varying color temperatures throughout the day. When tree foliage temporarily blocked the sun and flattened the light, we quickly switched to a side-backlit angle. During post-processing, we unified the ambient pink tones and preserved the airy translucency of the tulle without heavy filters, focusing primarily on refining leg lines. The dress has numerous tulle layers—though not heavy, they are easy to trip over. Ending the day was quite physically demanding, as maintaining natural expressions and focused eye contact took immense energy.
