For this set of convention photos featuring Galbrena from Wuthering Waves, a great deal of effort went into everything from the garment silhouette to post-production lighting and effects.
First, talking about wardrobe fidelity: the jacket was crafted from a glossy, vibrant blue leather fabric in a cropped design that perfectly hits at the waistline, framed by substantial black accents and metal buckles. The black leather shorts and leg harnesses on the lower half were the core of the entire outfit. To maintain crisp, clean lines amidst the crowded convention environment, the straps had to be cinched gradually to ensure the shorts wouldn't ride up or create awkward bunching during movement. The gold chain charms around the waist clinked softly with each step, which actually helped me get right into the character's headspace.
The shoot was primarily completed in a quieter corner of the convention hall. Since the background was fairly chaotic, we used a wide aperture to blur the surroundings and adopted low-angle shots to capture dynamic movement. Low-angle perspectives really test posture control, especially with a weapon prop hoisted over the left shoulder; the right hand had to hang naturally or raise slightly without letting the prop obstruct the face. The black dark wings on my back were quite heavy, naturally pulling my center of gravity backward, so I had to engage my core firmly and straighten my posture to convey an aura of effortless command.
As for facial expressions, I deliberately dialed back smiles, using a slight downturn of the lips and a piercing downward gaze to project a cold, formidable edge. When snapping candid shots, the photographer had me turn slightly to let the ambient light chisel the bridge of my nose and the clean line of my jaw.
Post-processing focused mainly on amplifying the combat ambiance. We darkened the background and shifted the overall color grading toward cooler blue tones, intensifying the contrast between the leather's gleam and natural skin textures. To emphasize kinetic motion, blue energy light streams were layered behind the character, accompanied by scattered golden bullet casings flying through the air. Highlight treatments along the wing contours gave the dark feathers deeper, distinct layering.
Cosplaying in this outfit was a truly unique experience. While leather isn't breathable, its structured tailoring offers a huge visual advantage in front of the lens. For an outdoor location next time, I would like to optimize the weight of the wings for extra ease or scout an abandoned ruin setting that complements the battle theme, lending an even richer narrative depth to the imagery.
