This official cosplay photoshoot of Hsin from Wuthering Waves is finally ready to share. To authentically capture Hsin's characteristic blend of cool detachment and enchanting allure from the game, we invested considerable effort into refining the garments and props during pre-production.
First, regarding the outfit: the primary palette features a classic high-contrast interplay of red, black, and white, utilizing fabrics of diverse textures to establish visual depth. The red sections possess a subtle luster that catches the light at certain angles; set against the black bodice and white inner lining, the chromatic impact is striking. The garment is richly adorned with gilded metallic hardware, including collar ornaments, draping tassels, and star-shaped accents. My favorite feature is the high side-slit: with every stride, the skirt billows dynamically with bodily movement, gorgeously accentuating leg lines while preserving an airy, flowing drape. The jewel-like centerpiece across the bust serves as an exquisite finishing touch, keeping the silhouette from feeling monotonous.
Styling the wig and plush props was another major highlight. The white wig required generous teasing to build the volume needed to support the colossal fox ears crowning the head. Both the ears and the massive fox tail were crafted from plush faux fur, which needed thorough grooming to maintain sleek strand definition, with the tail tip featuring a subtle gray-black gradient. To ensure the tail looked organic in photos, we constantly adjusted its positioning during takes, creating an airy sense of weightless suspension rather than letting it hang stiffly against the body.
For the makeup, to harmonize with the white tresses and red-and-black wardrobe, the eye makeup was deepened with blended crimson and pink tones, accented with delicate red facial markings along the forehead and cheeks. Paired with red contact lenses, this lent the gaze a sharper, more focused intensity. The lipstick was chosen in a vibrant crimson to echo the attire. The overall makeup strategy prioritized defining the eyes and lips, ensuring the face remained the definitive visual focal point amidst intricate garments and backgrounds.
The chosen location was an indoor atrium with a modern industrial aesthetic. We selected this venue because its cool-toned gray-and-white background and marble floors maximally accentuated the vivid vibrancy of Hsin's red-and-black styling. The circular ceiling lighting array provided flattering top light, sculpting sharp, clean contours around the silhouette. To make the subject pop distinctly from the environment, post-processing desaturated and dimmed the background into a near-monochrome texture while preserving the vibrant colors of the character—a contrast technique widely used in conventions and studio shoots to prevent background clutter from stealing the spotlight.
In terms of camera parameters, we utilized a 35mm focal length at an aperture of f/2.8. The 35mm lens captured ample environmental context within the interior space, framing the shoot setting effectively, while the wide f/2.8 aperture guaranteed sufficient light intake and produced gentle background bokeh to keep the subject prominent. The shutter speed was held at 1/200s paired with ISO 200, enabling crisp captures of physical motion under indoor lighting without motion blur.
When posing, I focused closely on hand gestures and weight distribution. Postures like resting a hand gently against the cheek or lightly tugging a sleeve added narrative nuance to the frame. Tilting the torso slightly and stepping one leg forward not only elongated body proportions visually, but also flatteringly showcased the leg contours unveiled by the high-slit skirt. While standing for hours in high heels was undeniably tiring, seeing the seamless harmony of body lines and garment silhouettes in the final retouched cuts made every bit of exertion worthwhile. I hope this portrayal allows everyone to experience Hsin's singular charm.
