Let's chat directly about the costume and shooting experience for this Kama cosplay. The most eye-catching parts of this outfit are the black strapless inner top and the purple outer cloak. To achieve that light yet seductive effect seen in the original art, the cloak fabric was intentionally chosen with a slight translucency. The blue grid pattern on it is a custom print, which, set off by the gold-trimmed borders, has a great reflective effect in front of studio lights. The golden armor on the shoulders and neck is the focus of this outfit; to ensure sharp edges and a secure fit, a flimsy material was avoided, allowing the shoulder armor to maintain its original three-dimensional shape even when striking poses with raised arms or slightly twisted bodies. The large pink rose decorations on the chest and waist side are also the finishing touches, adding a sense of layering to the overall outfit.
In terms of the wig, the silver-white long straight hair looks simple, but trimming and styling the cap actually took a long time. To recreate that thick texture of the bangs and the long hair on both sides framing the face, a large amount of hairspray was used. The red bow on the left side is the soul; a small clip was specially added when securing it to prevent it from falling off due to oversized movements during the shoot. A lot of thought went into the eye makeup: red contact lenses are a must, the red gradient at the outer corners of the eyes elongates the eye shape, and matching Kama's setting of being a bit scheming yet craving love, I deliberately practiced a gaze filled with charm and a hint of provocation in front of the lens. The lip makeup used a water-gloss texture, giving a slightly plump lip feel.
The Q-version cotton doll held in the second photo is a specially prepared interactive prop, actually meant to enrich the sense of the frame. Shooting in a convention venue where the background is relatively cluttered, having a prop means hands won't be awkward about where to place them, and holding one's own Q-version plushie also makes it feel more 2D anime-esque.
The lighting setup at the shooting location is extremely important for rendering this outfit. The purple fabric appears brighter under cool white light, while warm light gives it a gorgeous dark-toned texture. The softbox of the fill light spreads facial lighting very evenly, which highlights the fairness of the skin and also makes the red contact lenses look more translucent.
Overall, although this Kama outfit doesn't seem to have a lot of fabric, when walking around in it, the effect of the outer cloak swaying in the wind is extremely photogenic. However, because of the strapless top and ultra-short shorts design, extra attention to preventing exposure is needed at the convention site, and movement ranges shouldn't be too exaggerated. When shooting this set, to showcase leg lines, the standing posture was also intentionally adjusted, and the golden leg garter on the thigh needed to be kept at a proper visual position at all times. This shoot, whether from the control of makeup/styling details or the capture of the character's demeanor, tried its best to stay close to Kama's contradictory yet charming feel. I'm getting ready to organize these convention photos—it feels like there are still many angles to try, and for the next convention, I plan to further optimize the details, especially making the pleats of the outer cloak look a bit more natural. I'll just share these convention photos for now to record the experience of cosplaying Kama this time.
