[Wei Zhuang & Chi Lian Cosplay] The Legend of Qin and Nine Songs of Moving Heavens, Recreating Sword Shadows and Red Lotus at Changsha ACC

This shoot at Changsha ACC Comic Convention was a duo character performance my partner and I had been planning for a long time. From receiving photographer WiFi's invitation to deciding on the classic depictions of Wei Zhuang and Chi Lian from The Legend of Qin and Nine Songs of Moving Heavens, we communicated through several iterations. The weather in Changsha was cooperative on the day of the shoot. Although venue lighting was complex, with coordination from the photographer and official event areas, we found a spot that avoided cluttered crowds while bringing out character demeanor.

Preparing costumes and props served as the core focus of this cosplay. Chi Lian's red-and-yellow off-shoulder attire featured a cut that heavily tested tailoring skill; to capture her charming yet fierce aura, we spent substantial effort on the metallic ornaments of the waist cinch and wrist guards, balancing material texture and thickness. Wei Zhuang's long silver-white straight wig demanded high hair quality and grooming to remain smooth without looking messy, and headband patterns were repeatedly checked against original settings. The most challenging element was the long sword prop—to ensure safety and texture during shooting, blade surfaces and hilt details underwent multiple revisions to remain lightweight to lift while appearing heavy and lethal on camera.

Speaking of duo shots, the photographer's snapshots were highly meticulous, managing both individuals' positioning and framing while balancing interaction between sword blades and gazes. Freeze-frame poses coordinated with gestures required both of us to adjust stride pace rapidly amidst crowds to prevent passersby from entering the frame. The joint sword-holding pose required adjusting wrist angles to convey a unified focus along the blade edge, and we frequently paused to brush away stray hair strands—yet the final outcome made everyone's hard work on-site thoroughly worthwhile.

Regarding the characters themselves, the quote 'How could the glance remain unchanged across the years, standing side by side through a decade of hardship' fits the soul of these two characters deeply. To outsiders, one appears cold and decisive while the other seems alluring and dangerous, but those who truly know their story understand that their mutual companionship through turbulent times forms the very bond that inspires us to shape this commanding presence. The classic chemistry of anime duos requires stacking vast details in reality—movements, gazes, and front-to-back positioning are all essential.

As for the event experience, Changsha ACC Comic Convention had a grounded atmosphere filled with fellow enthusiasts. During shooting breaks, many passing attendees stopped to take photos, and some even called out character names accurately. This recognition served as positive validation for our early preparations and costume fidelity. However, heavy crowds made storage and changing difficult, and wearing long robes with armored elements inside convention halls restricted movement while consuming considerable physical energy.

Special thanks again to photographer WiFi for their patience; capturing cinematic effects in a noisy convention environment requires exceptional skill. Lighting techniques and background blurring preserved costume textures and makeup details naturally without over-smoothing, retaining authentic light rhythms to project character power. This work emphasized duo synergy and narrative depth. Cosplay extends beyond simple dress-up check-ins; it represents a tribute to and re-creation of the IP. Enduring hours in heavy, intricate costumes demands stamina, but seeing the final work brings an irreplaceable sense of fulfillment.
