[Shao Siming Cosplay] Traditional Chinese Light and Shadow at Changsha ACC Anime Convention: Returning to the Dream of The Legend of Qin

\"No sorrow is greater than parting in life, and no joy is greater than making new friends.\" Bringing this traditional Chinese style outfit of Shao Siming to Changsha ACC Anime Convention this time, the overall atmospheric quality of the photos turned out even better than I expected. In a bustling convention environment filled with noise and crowd movement, capturing the character's cool and mysterious aura really tests the photographer's ability to grab candid moments and direct the scene. Fortunately, I had wonderful chemistry working with WiFi-teacher this time.

Let's start with the details of this styling. Instead of conventional pure white or natural shades, I chose a long grayish-purple wig this time. The hair strands feel quite smooth, complemented by a white flower headpiece featuring geometric diamond elements on top and a delicate forehead ornament (huadian) right in the center, making it the visual focal point of the face. The veil is the soul accessory of the character. I selected an extremely thin white veil that doesn't completely hide facial expressions while visually creating a hazy sense of distance, and breathing in it is very comfortable.

The layering of the outfit is very intricate. The upper body features a purple-and-white cross-collar paired with wide-sleeve design and matching wrist guards. The eye-catching fan-shaped hard shoulder piece carries real presence, densely patterned in black and white with gold trim along the edges and a small crescent-shaped pendant hanging underneath. A wide brown leather belt around the waist, adorned with 3D studs, clearly defines the line between upper and lower body. The light blue inner and outer skirts, alongside the deep purple totem ribbons draped from the side of the waist, provide fantastic dynamic flow whether walking or sitting down.

I personally love the lower body combination very much: semi-sheer cloud-patterned tights paired with purple-pink platform chunky heels. This style of footwear is truly a convention holy grail—it elongates the legs nicely while keeping standing comfortable over long periods. The strap wrapped around the calf with a small metal pendant adds a clean layer of detail to the lower body. Such details are often easily overlooked, yet they are key to elevating the overall degree of completion.

Regarding the photography setting, the venue was the large hall at Changsha ACC Anime Convention. The large circular matrix lights overhead happened to create gorgeous light spots and long aisle lighting from this angle. The floor tiles were so polished that they reflected clear inverted images, which, combined with the background blur from a wide aperture, highlighted the subject while keeping the authentic feel of the venue. You can see softboxes and reflectors were used on-site; the highlights were clean, skin tones appeared luminous, and the purple hue of the wig gained extra luster under professional studio lighting.

The interactive vibe at the convention was fantastic as well, with many fellow fans who love Chinese animation/comics coming over for photos and chats. Honestly, many passersby didn't know exactly who I was doing cosplay of, but seeing the purple hair and veil, they automatically associated it with that legendary mysterious character. That kind of unspoken understanding between fellow enthusiasts feels truly wonderful. Cosplaying classic Chinese animation/comics characters nowadays is no longer just a simple recreation, but a reinterpretation of traditional Chinese aesthetics.

Finally, reviewing a few shortcomings of this look: for example, while that fan-shaped shoulder piece builds up a strong presence, navigating through crowded convention hallways makes it prone to bumping, so I might need to reinforce its fastening in advance for similar characters in the future. Additionally, if there had been haze/smoke effects or a softer, more misty backdrop on site, the photos might have felt even more dreamlike.

However, the beauty of anime conventions sometimes lies in this very randomness on-site—a few seconds captured candidly can actually feel more vibrant than a meticulously staged studio shoot. While organizing these convention photos and seeing these frozen moments, the shifting lights and bustling sounds in the exhibition hall flood back into my mind. I hope every carefully crafted makeup and costume effort leaves behind a memorable mark under the lens.
