This set of convention photos from Changsha ACC Comic Convention turned out even better than I had anticipated. The moment I received the images, I began organizing the details; this Honkai: Star Rail Firefly cosplay outfit had already drawn the attention of many fellow fans at the convention venue. The costume is grounded in a black-and-white base, accented with teal and gold trims, and layered with a dark capelet over the shoulders. To recreate that cool yet faintly adorable disposition, I devoted considerable care to the hair and makeup. The long, wavy silver-white wig required repeated straightening and styling with flat irons beforehand, while the black geometric forehead ornament, side purple ribbon bows, and pale-blue leaf accessories each had to be anchored securely to the wig cap using bobby pins. To match the outfit's palette, I selected highly pigmented violet-blue contacts and applied an expansive pinkish-red eye blend, striving to evoke that vibrant spark of life inherent to the original design.

The fantasy-style longsword in my hands is a prop I cherish deeply. The blade gleams in bright teal-blue with intricate geometric patterns, and the hilt integrates metallic components in black, gold, and silver, carrying a solid physical weight. During shooting, to prevent swinging poses from looking rigid, I tested several different angles. In Photo 1, holding the sword horizontally with one hand while extending the other backward required engaging the core while keeping facial expressions serene. The length of the blade lent a sweeping sense of extension to the frame. Capturing dynamic motion this way demands prop balance and arm strength, but seeing how the sword harmonized with the wardrobe across the finished shots made all the practice well worth it.

The shoot took place in a moody industrial space backed by gray concrete walls with circular indentations. To help the subject pop out from the dim surroundings, the photographer utilized direct hard key lighting. While this lighting approach accentuates skin texture, pairing it with the reflective white fabric and teal-blue skirt hem generated a striking visual punch instead. In Photo 2, holding the sword vertically before me with both hands under hard light accentuated the chest crisscross straps and cutout details. The skirt hem features motifs resembling leaf veins and geometric window panes, embellished with diamond and circle ornaments; paired with dark Stockings and cutout accents on the legs, the overall styling balanced combat readiness with signature character lore.

The crowd on convention day was massive, and the venue at Changsha ACC was lively and bustling. Preparing this look, from initial prep to various makeup tests and rehearsals, took over half a month. Walking around the hall fully geared up drained stamina quickly, yet meeting so many friends who share a love for this work was wonderful. In convention photography, effectively utilizing ambient and artificial lighting to display costume textures is a true test of teamwork. Photo 3 subtly adjusted the posture to rest the sword diagonally across the chest with arms outstretched, creating a much more relaxed, expansive composition. Receiving these raw frames with centered framing and sharp lighting contrast felt like the ultimate reward for all the hard rehearsals. Transforming a fictional character's design into a three-dimensional reality and preserving it through the lens is precisely the greatest joy that cosplay brings me.
