From curating the pieces to the final image selection, preparing this Megumi Kato JK uniform took nearly half a month. Today, using this outdoor set, I'd love to share the detailed preparation process and shooting insights behind it.

First, regarding the outfit details: the classic short-sleeved white shirt with a sailor collar is layered under a navy blue knit vest, with that signature red necktie knotted neatly at the collar as the sole vibrant pop of color amidst the deep-toned palette. The knit texture of the vest and the dual white stripes along the pleated skirt hem were meticulously aligned; the skirt's pleats were also ironed with care before the shoot to ensure a fluid drape and a beautiful flare in motion. Below, it was paired with black knee-high Stockings and black loafers, holding a black leather school briefcase in hand. To embody Megumi Kato's understated, subtle, everyday presence, the wig was trimmed to shoulder-length straight locks paired with blunt bangs, thinned softly along the edges to appear natural rather than overly rigid. The makeup avoided heavy layering, focusing instead on a clear, translucent base, a gentle sweep of peach blush, earthy neutral eyeshadow to define eye contours, and a coral red lip—all pursuing an understated yet camera-ready look in Japanese style photography.

The location was chosen along a tree-lined street bordered by metal guardrails, a pedestrian crossing, and blue pedestrian and bicycle street signs. This setting, infused with urban street realism and everyday life, harmonized wonderfully with her character concept of blending seamlessly into the background. The overcast, soft diffused light on the shoot day provided gentle illumination without harsh direct sunlight, which was remarkably flattering for rendering the fabric textures and skin tones.

During the actual shoot, to accentuate the leg lines and texture of the Stockings, we experimented with numerous standing and walking candid captures. For example, in the shot glancing back over my shoulder away from the camera, controlling the flared arc of the skirt during the spin while managing the muscular tone of the legs and the briefcase's center of gravity genuinely tested core stability. In the shot standing next to the street sign with one leg slightly lifted, micro-adjusting the pointed toe and knee bend was essential to project an effortless, relaxed grace with subtle visual tension before the lens. To keep the composition from feeling stiff, I refrained from staring directly into the camera the entire time, gazing instead toward the edge of the frame or into the distance, imagining myself simply strolling down the street immersed in my own pace.

The theme of this shoot was titled 'Two People Out of Step.' While preparing for this character, I continually reflected on the meaning behind those words. In the narrative of Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend, Megumi Kato is often the one walking a step behind, quietly observing everyone. She neither competes nor asserts herself, nor does she engage in melodramatic emotional outbursts; yet her presence, much like air, gradually becomes indispensable. Throughout the shoot, I consciously subdued my facial expressions—forgoing radiant beaming smiles or overt cuteness in favor of a calm, composed, introverted presence. Whether walking along the street carrying the weighted briefcase or waiting quietly against the railing, I strove to convey that unhurried composure of savoring the journey at one's own pace. Sometimes falling behind the cadence of others is perfectly fine; walking according to your own rhythm allows you to discover wonderful scenery all your own.

Ultimately, the location framing and lighting captures matched our initial vision seamlessly. Heartfelt thanks to the photographer for patient guidance and tireless shooting, as well as to the assistant for smoothing out my skirt and briefcase straps between takes. Wearing uniform fabrics outdoors can get quite warm over time, but the moment the finished frames came together, every drop of sweat felt completely worthwhile. Through this Megumi Kato Cosplay set, I hope everyone can feel the quiet strength that defines this character.
