This time we chose to shoot on a late-night city overpass and boardwalk. The traffic flow in the background and the distant neon lights formed a gorgeous bokeh, setting a mysterious tone for the entire frame. This bunny ear uniform design actually has quite a lot of details; the glossy bunny ear headband on top has an incredible texture, and the black long-sleeved top paired with black furry decorations at the collar and cuffs adds some fuzzy cuteness. Inside, it's layered with a white shirt and black bowtie, instantly bringing out a rich sense of layering. The lower body features black shorts paired with black Stockings and glossy high heels, with a small white furry tail hidden on the back. The overall styling blends cuteness with a touch of light seduction, perfectly fitting the setting of a nocturnal creature.
Night portrait photography poses quite a challenge, especially in light control. Ambient light at night is very weak and the color temperature is complex. To make the subject stand out against the low-key background, we used external strobes and softboxes for facial and contour fill lighting, while deliberately suppressing the proportion of ambient light, retaining the background's original lighting colors as much as possible to create a cinematic feel. In lens selection, using a large-aperture lens can effectively blur out distant cluttered light sources, forming those round, beautiful bokehs that make the frame cleaner.
In pose design, I experimented with multiple different postures to match different scenes. For instance, the crossed-leg posture sitting on the edge of the wooden boardwalk not only effectively elongates the leg lines and showcases the texture of black Stockings and high heels, but also makes the whole person look more relaxed and stretched out. Single-knee kneeling or squatting poses test core strength more, requiring an upright back, but they capture wonderful body curves and three-dimensionality, especially when paired with a low-angle shot, which completely alters the aura.
To increase the narrative sense and richness of the frame, we also used a transparent umbrella and smoke cakes as props. The white smoke produced by the smoke cake under backlight has an amazing atmosphere, and paired with the transparent umbrella, it creates an illusion of strolling in an urban night rain. Adding a pair of round-frame glasses added a bit of playfulness and scholarly charm to the original seductiveness. We tried all sorts of different postures, from standing and squatting to lying prone on wooden boards, and even interactive gestures reaching out towards the lens with props.
I really love the concept of a nocturnal creature. The city at night strips away the daytime hustle and bustle, presenting another fascinating state of light and shadow. Bringing anime-style into real-world scenes through the form of cosplay, capturing the changes of light and shadow in the night, is a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Every press of the shutter is a freezing of this quiet night, and also a personal experiment with different styles.
