These Hatsune Miku cosplay Canary Qipao Convention photos were taken several years ago during the Shenzhen International Video Game Festival. Back then, the rooftop of that skyscraper was still open to the public; stepping outside to catch the breeze and enjoy the skyline felt amazing, so we made a spontaneous decision to head up and shoot. The garment has rich tactile quality—the golden floral print on the white base fabric reflected beautifully under intense sunlight, and combined with high-key exposure, it perfectly accentuated the splendid elegance of the Vocaloid Canary look. Because I was wearing white stiletto high heels on rough concrete rooftop flooring, walking required immense caution—especially when striking that single-leg standing pose, where keeping calf muscles constantly taut was essential to maintain balance and avoid wobbling. The fishnet Stockings were actually much muggier than expected, and the tight leg garter caused slight discomfort, leaving distinct pressure marks after extended wear.
Visitor crowds at the Shenzhen International Video Game Festival were not overwhelming at the time, giving us plenty of leeway to patiently find camera angles and adjust lighting positions across the rooftop. This Qipao design is notably figure-hugging, so during the shoot, I paid careful attention to the bend of my elbows and shoulder alignment to prevent the upper body from appearing stiff. On the thighs, styling the white fishnet Stockings with black lace garters visually elongated my leg lines; for the seated pose, I deliberately extended one leg forward to stretch the perspective, which serves as a highly practical shooting technique in Qipao styling.
This photo series embraced a high-exposure style. Since backlighting easily overexposes background architecture, we leveraged the washed-out sky and surrounding skyscrapers as a natural white canvas, which also effectively concealed distracting rooftop clutter. On-site, the photographer used reflectors for fill light to ensure shadow details across my face and costume weren't swallowed by the highlights. Later in post-production, colors were subtly tuned so the teal-blue hair and golden dress retained vibrant saturation without looking bleached or faint under intense daylight.
Looking back now, finding such a vast, accessible rooftop venue around a convention was truly rare, as most high-rises today prohibit casual access for shoots. Reviewing these Convention photos brought back memories of preparing for this look far in advance—meticulously sculpting the twintail wig silhouette and sourcing the right white ankle-strap stiletto heels. Although the shoot was physically demanding—stumbling on slender heels and braving the scorching sun for hours—seeing the dreamy final outcome made all that preparation worthwhile. This rare outdoor rooftop setting left a singular memory of that year's convention. Even though years have passed and some shooting details have faded, that feeling of standing atop the city in the breeze, along with those fleeting moments seized by the lens, remains preserved with crystal clarity.
