[Modernia Cosplay] Goddess of Victory Qipao Look: A Collision of Pure White and Chinese Classicism

The full Modernia cosplay photoshoot featuring her Qipao outfit is finally ready. When finalizing this style, I was actually quite hesitant because Modernia in the original work of Goddess of Victory doesn't really connect with the Qipao element. However, when I saw the concept art for this white modified Qipao, a thought popped into my head: I could fuse this white classical beauty with Modernia's naturally cool, pure disposition. The final photos turned out even more fitting than I imagined, creating an overall visual vibe reminiscent of a snow elf.

Starting with makeup and styling, I used a long, straight silver-white wig with neatly trimmed bangs to frame my face shape and make my features appear more defined. For hair accessories, I paired silver butterfly clips, crystal bead strands, and long red tassels. The central finishing touch of this makeup was the red eyeshadow and crimson contact lenses; with silver-white hair and a white Qipao, the palette was entirely cool-toned, so without that touch of red, the character would lack vitality. The red eye makeup and lenses instantly heightened that inhuman quality and visual impact, perfectly complementing the white attire to evoke a divine yet subtly dangerous aura.

Looking at costume details, this modified Qipao differs significantly from traditional Qipaos. It features a halter-neck and cutout design that flatters body contours nicely. The upper body's lace splicing is exquisite, and the chest cutout perfectly highlights a silver-branch ruby necklace. Elbow-length white lace gloves add a solemn elegance to the overall look. There is also a large lace cutout on the back; during the shoot, we specifically used a back-facing glance angle to showcase that feature, highlighting back lines while creating a striking contrast with the formal front profile. The lower half features a short hem accented with pearls and lace trim, supported by a white plush carpet that truly evokes the pristine feel of reclining in snow without touching a speck of dust.

Building the studio set was also a fascinating experience. A studio in Chongqing specifically built a Neo-Chinese set for this shoot: a deep blue background wall, a black wooden round hollow screen, branches adorned with white blossoms, along with artistically placed miniature rockeries, pearl trays, and celadon vases. The photographer deliberately decorated flower branches with blue artificial butterflies; this blue popped against the overarching red and white tones, adding dynamic energy so the image wouldn't feel stiff. The lighting featured soft backlighting that created snow-like bokeh flares across the blossoms. We tested several dynamic poses to echo the scene: reclining with legs resting on a classical wooden chair using a top-down perspective to highlight long legs; kneeling on the plush rug, softly half-veiling my face with a round fan decorated with blue butterflies; and a close-up shot where foreground lens bokeh added rich layering, appearing as if peeking through flower clusters.

Because the studio was air-conditioned and shooting required maintaining various demanding poses like leaning back or sitting sideways, staying in pose got tiring over time. The overhead shot in particular required engaging my core and holding my breath, taking time to balance my center of gravity. Yet this immersive posing and character-alignment process is precisely what I love most about cosplay. Experiencing the form and spirit of different characters across various styles is truly magical. This Modernia Qipao concept was a bold fusion attempt, blending anime character personification, modern styling, and traditional Chinese elements through Anime-style photography.

The entire shoot went smoothly, and I'm so grateful for the photographer's patient guidance in capturing many natural gazes and movements. I hope the classical charm in this photoset combined with the character's serene purity brings everyone a distinct visual experience.
