The moment this Hoshimi Miyabi costume arrived, I immediately began contemplating how to faithfully recreate her cool, sharp demeanor from the game. The outfit is structured around a black, white, and gold palette: the outer black fabric features subtle jacquard patterning, while the gold piping takes on striking three-dimensional pop under studio lighting, complemented by yellow tassels and metallic hardware accents at the waist. To align with the character design, styling the wig and securely anchoring the black animal ears demanded meticulous effort; for makeup, I specifically selected purplish-red colored contacts and added crimson blending at the outer corners of the eyes to accentuate her piercing gaze.
Regarding props, the paint finish on this greatsword is remarkably faithful to the source material, with the hilt wrapped in anti-slip grip tape, though its physical weight is solidly hefty. Raising it aloft with one hand required serious core engagement; to execute various sword-holding and slashing poses, I practiced muscle activation points in front of my mirror at home for days. Given that the wide, voluminous hem of the skirt restricts broad leg movements, I relied more on tilting my upper torso, extending my arms, and creating shoulder height differentials to convey visual tension before the camera. For instance, the profile pose raising the sword with one hand elegantly displayed the off-the-shoulder cut while lending an agile fluidity to the silhouette. The boots have quite high heels, taking a heavy toll on my ankles over a full day of shooting, so I made sure to sit down and rest during breaks to recalibrate my stamina.
On the lighting front, black garments easily absorb illumination, and relying solely on top lights would leave the face looking muddy and underexposed. During the studio shoot, I brought in reflectors to brighten facial exposure, while rim lighting from the side contoured individual hair strands and garment edges. In this set, I also introduced a watermelon prop—originally meant just to quench thirst during shooting breaks—only to discover that holding it created a delightful gap moe contrast. One moment she is a stoic warrior gripping a heavy blade, and the next she is comfortably cradling a watermelon in a relaxed everyday state; this endearing contrast aligns organically with her subtle personal quirks beneath that aloof exterior. Adding cartoon stickers in post-production was similarly intended to soften the sharp, cool edge, infusing the visuals with playful charm.
Every cosplay shoot demands immense dedication—from prepping the wardrobe to choreographing poses—yet seeing the final images embody the character's presence makes the entire journey deeply rewarding. Crafting this collection deepened my understanding of the character, continuously guiding my body language and micro-expressions closer to the person she is in the game. From initial garment steaming to continually adjusting the shoulder straps and waist cincher throughout the session, every detail served to make the final frames look completely organic. Carrying this ensemble undeniably tested my physical stamina, but fully immersing myself in the character's mindset was an absolute thrill.
