This poolside shoot for Kafka's swimwear styling really blended two contrasting elements together: tenderness and raw strength. During pre-production, I was constantly contemplating how to portray her effortless, poised agent aura through still photography. The outfit's design is intriguing: a black cutout strappy one-piece swimsuit brings a sleek, badass edge, while the semi-sheer wine-red chiffon draped at the waist acts as the very soul of the look—whether floating calmly in the water or billowing in the breeze, it infuses the composition with light, airy layers.
To complement this look, styling and trimming the wig took serious dedication. Kafka's iconic magenta short hair needed to display a radiant sheen under the sunlight, with crisply defined layers at the tips so it maintained its silhouette even around heavy water vapor. For makeup, I deepened the purplish-red tones in the eyeshadow to echo the hair and chiffon skirt, while keeping the base makeup exceptionally clean and translucent—shooting outdoors means breaking a sweat, so smudge-proofing was a top priority.
The location chosen was an infinity pool, with undulating mountains and an endlessly clear sky in the background. The natural sunlight was intense, so we relied heavily on backlighting and side-rim angles. When sunlight penetrated the red tulle, it produced an ethereal translucency that is nearly impossible to fake in post-production. However, this demanded rigorous exposure control: keeping the face bright without blowing out harsh specular highlights across the water surface was a true test of the photographer's handling of reflectors and framing.
As for the tenderness or strength you wish to embrace, they corresponded to two distinct sets of poses planned for the shoot. The first set leaned into tenderness: I tried profile glance-backs and gently brushing a hand across my cheek, keeping the gaze soft and restrained. The gentle ripples of the water naturally brought a serene mood, which combined with the fluttering red tulle to present a deeply relaxed state.
The other set focused on power. This aligns seamlessly with her combat readiness as a Stellaron Hunter. In the third shot, facing away from the camera, I struck a pose showcasing arm muscles and back lines. To project this healthy, toned vitality, I consistently maintain physical training to keep my muscle tone defined. Framed by sunlight and glistening water droplets, this energetic presence felt far more true to the character than forcing a fragile, delicate pose. There is no need to feed into figure anxiety; showcasing real, powerful lines carries far greater conviction.
While shooting in the water, the red chiffon became heavy once soaked, losing its floating lightness. We had to engage our core muscles in waist-deep water to hold our balance while keeping our facial expressions composed. Those effortless-looking moments behind the lens actually required intense physical discipline—which is, in itself, a form of strength. Sorting out this series was my way of exploring an everyday, grounded dimension for this character.
