Portraying Laqeramaline from Arknights this time, the conceptual direction was set on a Dark Gothic aesthetic. The venue was selected for its mechanical gears and wrought-iron structural elements, paired with a commanding throne, birdcages, and sprawling vines of red and amber roses to create richly textured layers of light and shadow. To embody the lore of the Lord of Banshees, the most prominent styling elements were the black lace veil and pointed Elf ears. The veil partially obscured my vision, so on set I relied predominantly on physical posture to convey the character's imposing pressure; the jawline needed to remain tightly engaged at all times, as relaxing even slightly would diminish her sharp, cutting presence. The wig featured a blue-to-purple gradient that caught a gorgeous sheen beneath warm amber and crimson backlights.
This attire carried significant physical weight. The crisscross lacing of the corset was cinched tightly, though it sculpted clean, striking waistlines. The exterior semi-sheer black sleeves and voluminous cloak held a substantial drape, with the cloak's edges catching subtle rim lighting from behind during shots. Sitting atop the throne demanded constant core tension, keeping my back rigidly upright for hours, leaving me sore and exhausted by the end of the session. The sprawling skirt was grand and expansive, fully draping over my legs and feet once arranged, directing the series toward solemn, enigmatic majesty rather than overt leg exposure. The extended gloves lent elegance to every hand movement while adding a touch of cool, mechanical severity.
The set's lighting design was intricate. Surrounding us were numerous illuminated props, including a gear-like apparatus on the left. The primary key light was placed behind and to the side of the subject, simultaneously illuminating the background foliage and blooms while crisply tracing the contours of the silhouette. Wearing an all-black ensemble risked turning into a muddy silhouette under flat light, prompting the photographer to accentuate high-contrast chiaroscuro.
The shooting process involved considerable trial and adjustment. The sheer material of the veil reflected light easily, requiring continuous recalibration of my chin's angle to avoid sweeping hot spots. Eventually, I pressed the veil down firmly, piercing the lens with an unblinking gaze. The wide-angle panoramic shot in Photo 2 reveals the sheer scale of the set design. The reflective floor added rich visual depth through ground mirror reflections. While arranging birdcages and books, the props team deliberately created sightlines that naturally guided visual focus back toward the center of the frame. This creative endeavor was profoundly satisfying; from fabric textures to light choreography, the visual tension matched my initial expectations completely.
That wraps up the ramblings for this set. Photo 1 showcases facial and half-body nuances, while Photo 2 presents the full-body view and panoramic scene. Hope everyone enjoys it!
