For this styling test and photoshoot, I chose Ichigo Hoshimiya's Aurora Kiss coord from Aikatsu!. The entire production, from costume tailoring to prop crafting, centered around bringing out a whimsical, Dreamy girly style aura. Although the original concept post mentioned swapping the rice paddle for a microphone, we ultimately paired the outfit with a giant white fork as an interactive prop during the actual shoot—this exaggerated proportional contrast added a distinct fairy-tale charm to the visuals.
Let's start with the fabric choices for the outfit. To match the stage presence of Aurora Kiss, the main fabric selected was high-gloss pink satin, which yields clear pearlescent reflections under the studio lighting. The skirt features a classic puffed tutu silhouette with a double-layered structure—the outer pink satin shell is trimmed with white lace ruffles along the hem, while the oversized detachable bow at the back waist sways naturally with movement. A hollowed-out metallic heart embellishment sits right at the center of the bodice, accented with a tiny dangling rhinestone underneath; recreating these intricate details was vital to elevating the overall texture. The stand-up white lace collar also naturally flatters the neck silhouette.
The wig features a blunt-banged golden-blonde cut falling just to the collarbone. To make the bangs look more natural, inverted teasing techniques were applied to give the interior volume. The headpiece combines a blue heart with pink ribbon bows, harmonizing seamlessly with the overall palette. For makeup, I wore red colored contacts paired with soft pink eyeshadow and blush, aiming to channel her coquettish, doll-like cuteness.
The gradient wings on the back were one of the standout highlights of this Ichigo Hoshimiya cosplay look. Transitioning smoothly from soft pink at the base to pale cyan-blue at the tips, they were crafted from a semi-sheer stiff organza with pearlescent sheen that remains lightweight while scattering subtle rainbow iridescence under shifting light angles. Although the wings had some weight, distributing the center of gravity across the shoulder blades ensured they wouldn't slip during wide stretching poses.
For the lower half, I wore pink platform lace-up high-heeled sandals. The crisscrossing straps wind from the instep up to mid-calf, a design that visually elongates leg lines and serves as the perfect match for this pink short dress. Posing in these heels definitely required technique—especially atop the white circular stage pedestal, where holding one-legged poses demanded constant core stability to prevent wobbling. Fortunately, the photographer's timing and angles were spot-on, maintaining dynamic tension the moment each movement was frozen in frame.
The studio set was meticulously arranged for this Studio shoot. Semi-translucent white drapes cascaded across the background and perimeter, pairing with the studio's pink-purple mood lights to create a hazy, ethereal visual canvas. Scattered white floral accents, a classical European side table, vintage clocks, and an ornate white birdcage blended seamlessly with the costume without stealing the spotlight, immersing the character into a fairytale realm.
Beyond the giant fork prop, we brought in a pink bubble machine toward the end. The fleeting moments of bubbles drifting and popping in mid-air, framed against welcoming open-armed poses, gave the images an airy, dynamic breathability. In portraying idol-type characters, expressive range in body language is crucial; dynamic poses showcasing the flutter of the skirt and wings prove far more compelling than static stances, while testing the model's presence on set. Although the entire process from hair and makeup to wrap took several hours, seeing the final photos capture the true essence of Aurora Kiss made it completely worthwhile. Interpreting 2D characters through one's own vision is the greatest joy of being a cosplayer. Pairing lace-up heels with the whimsical giant fork added a delightfully dramatic theatrical flair to this memorable shoot.
