Visiting the Rinascita location set finally allowed me to bring this official Cartethyia Cosplay photoshoot from Wuthering Waves to fruition. As the featured cosplayer, I wanted to share the behind-the-scenes nuances, styling details, and feelings that shaped this production.
Cartethyia's costume design is exceptionally layered: while the palette of blue, white, and black appears understated, the interplay of spliced fabrics and tailored cuts is remarkably complex. During initial fittings, the biggest hurdle was managing the sheer, gradient ombré chiffon overskirt. To achieve the weightless flutter seen in the concept art, I adjusted the inner lining structure multiple times, ensuring the fabric draped organically without unnecessary bulk whether walking or seated. The metallic hardware at the neckline also demanded a snug fit to the torso, as even the slightest shift would distort overall visual proportions. To preserve the chest cutout detailing and the layered depth of the choker, I tweaked the inner foundation garments so the look remained richly detailed without becoming cluttered.
The wig styling and makeup were equally paramount. The long, straight golden-blonde wig had to be conditioned until silky smooth to embody her noble grace. Positioning the hair accessories took extensive adjustments: securing the azure branch-like headpiece alongside the prosthetic elf ears severely tested the hold of cosmetic adhesive. Because outdoor gusts were strong, the blended edges of the elf ears had to fuse seamlessly into the base makeup. For cosmetics, I selected a breathable matte finish with focal emphasis on the eyes, pairing luminous blue contact lenses with crisp eyeliner to lend clarity and depth to my gaze. Additionally, to give the wig's crown a natural, voluminous lift, I crimped the roots repeatedly with a flat iron to maintain dimensional structure under bright outdoor light.
Daylight was intense on the day of the shoot, yet against the stone facades and azure windows, it sculpted exquisite natural highlights and shadows. To complement the silhouette, I selected an antique white wrought-iron table and chair set, which harmonized effortlessly with Rinascita's vintage, fantasy-tinged ambiance. While posing seated with heeled sandals and crossed legs, the lower leg lines were elongated; I shifted my weight onto the balls of my feet so calf contours looked streamlined and organic. Naturally, posing required caution to keep the delicate chiffon from snagging on the metal chair, continually reshaping the hemline to preserve clean framing.
In this collection, I deliberately retained the sharp shadows cast by direct sunlight to give the scene a richer narrative texture. The entire session tested physical stamina and patience: bright sun makes eyes prone to squinting, requiring sharp synchronization with the shutter to switch expressions swiftly. From prepping props and fitting the wig to scouting angles on-site, shooting a full set is genuinely exhausting, yet seeing the finished selects makes every meticulous effort worthwhile. Outdoor cosplay must not only reproduce a character's visual design, but also ground the imagery in genuine, living atmosphere—a photographic style I continually explore. I hope everyone enjoys this portrayal under natural daylight. Every cosplay journey is a fresh adventure, and pouring care into every step from pattern drafting to final retouching is the true magic of cosplay.
