[Cartethyia Cosplay] Wuthering Waves: An Aloof Elf Amidst Blue and White Blossoms

Once I put on this Cartethyia ensemble, the layered complexity was far more pronounced than I had imagined. The black-and-white paneled materials carry a distinct leather-like sheen, while adjusting the metallic collar around the neck and the strappy cutout bodice took quite some time. To align with the character's temperament, I wore sapphire-blue contact lenses and a wig adorned with a white branch-like circlet, securing the elf ears with special adhesive to ensure they wouldn't budge during movement and posing.

Our shoot took place in an indoor studio setup featuring a plush white fleece carpet embraced by lush clusters of blue and white flowers. In the background stood a window framed with stained glass. On the shoot day, photographer Xiaoyu and I aligned on the lighting direction: we adopted an overall cool-toned illumination that, when cast upon the white petals and translucent blue sheer drapery, produced an ethereal, dreamy ambiance. Xiaoyu had me experiment with various stances on the carpet—such as sitting sideways—but we ultimately found that a standing profile angle best accentuated the garment's distinctive tailoring, particularly the trailing blue-and-white gradient cape.

The edge of that cape features a scalloped, wave-like trim reminiscent of fish fins or dragon wings, shifting subtly in hue under the light. To capture that flowing, airy feel in Photo 4, I gently lifted a corner of the cape with my arm, allowing Xiaoyu to capture the translucent backlight through the sheer fabric. The longsword in hand had far more heft than anticipated, with intricate blue-and-gold filigree along the hilt; holding it one-handed while locking the pose engaged my arm muscles completely, leaving my shoulder quite sore by wrap-up. Walking barefoot on the soft rug felt lovely, though holding stances barefoot required carefully shifting my center of gravity to flatter leg lines.

The back construction of the garment easily creases when sitting, so between takes I remained standing as much as possible or meticulously smoothed the cape out flat. The wig picked up a bit of frizz from the fans mid-shoot, which Xiaoyu kindly helped comb through. For makeup, I specifically emphasized sharp contouring to create definition against the cool-toned environment, lending my facial structure a crisp, dimensional pop under the studio lights.

To honor the character's core essence, I maintained a distant, icy gaze throughout the session, which harmonized seamlessly with the cool-toned palette of the attire. Having wrapped this shoot several months ago and held off on posting until now, archiving these frames feels like revisiting the creative process step by step. The overall polish is exceptionally high, thoroughly rewarding Xiaoyu's tireless calibration of lighting setups and camera angles throughout that day.
