This time, my partner and I shot the cosplay official photos for Hiyuki Form Two from Wuthering Waves. To recreate the red and blue color scheme, we brought two sets of costumes with different styles. The white sleeveless top paired with a blue ink-gradient skirt hem, along with the red high-split long dress, both have great fabric drape, making the skirt swing naturally when walking. The techwear-style black straps and metal fasteners were adjusted for a long time before the shoot to ensure they looked three-dimensional in front of the lens and didn't appear limp. The white straps on the thighs are also crucial; tightening them slightly during the shoot is not only for accuracy, but also visually flatters the leg lines.
Characters with such combat attributes require a certain sense of power in action design. We prepared the corresponding katana props with just the right weight, allowing us to strike a steady stance in hand. Too light props easily look floaty, while too heavy ones cannot be held for long. The first composition alternating between standing and sitting poses aims to showcase different states of the character. When standing, holding the sword with one hand, the tassel on the hilt will hang down naturally, and the gaze should be slightly sharp; when sitting, placing the sword horizontally across the front of the body, paired with the high-split skirt hem, reveals the leg strap details, showcasing a sense of effortless ease. In the second photo, we simply sat together on the wooden steps, with the blue version crossing her legs and the red version spreading out her red dress. Such relaxed poses are easier to photograph well and better showcase the lines of the shoes and legs.
The shooting scene was chosen indoors with shoji sliding doors, pine bonsai, and Japanese paper lanterns; this traditional wooden structure background has a very atmospheric feel. The warm yellow lighting shining down forms a wonderful cold-warm contrast with the silver long hair. When combing the wig, pay attention to the layers at the hair ends to prevent them from clumping together; a smooth texture is especially important under strong lighting. To reflect the cold, frost-and-snow-like detached aura, I lowered the blush saturation in the makeup, kept the eye makeup as clean and sharp as possible with heavy emphasis on eyelashes and eyeliner, and chose a lighter lip shade to closely match the character's temperament.
The overall shooting process went quite smoothly, and the two-person framing composition could easily hold up the image. We tried different sword stances and sitting postures, matching the background Japanese lanterns and greenery, and we are very satisfied with the final light and shadow effects.
