What I am challenging this time is Keqing's Opulent Splendor styling from Genshin Impact. As a boy pulling off this outfit, I indeed made a lot of preparations in the early stages. The design of the Opulent Splendor dress is extremely exquisite, with a black sequined strapless bodice paired with a light blue-purple layered skirt, providing a strong visual layering sense. To fit the overall temperament of the character, a lot of thought went into the makeup and wig styling. The wig features a silver-gray gradient blue-purple style, and the hair bun on top of the head needed to be firmly fixed with bobby pins, while the pearl hair ornaments required repeated angle adjustments. Because a boy's facial contours are relatively sharp, shadows were deliberately deepened in the eye makeup part, utilizing blue-purple colored contacts and eyeliner to soften the facial lines, while the base makeup pursued cleanliness and translucency, with concealer and contouring taking up a large part of the time.
The outdoor shooting location was chosen at Maho Shoujo, where the set design has a very strong Liyue feel. With swaying bamboo shadows, paired with dim lanterns and wooden furniture, that nocturnal serenity instantly emerged. It precisely echoed the line about taking a stroll to enjoy Liyue's night view during leisure time. When shooting this set of pictures, to showcase Keqing's competence and elegance, the poses referenced a lot of feelings from the game. Holding a scroll and a long sword in hand, I needed to pay attention to the strength of the wrists and the direction of the gaze, trying my best to portray the aloof temperament of the Yuheng.
The details of this outfit are numerous, and especially worth mentioning are the stockings on the legs, which feature white geometric line patterns that wonderfully flatter the leg shape. Although wearing high heels while striking various poses on wooden tables and the ground was somewhat tiring, for the visual effect of the frame, I kept adjusting the position of my center of gravity to make the leg lines look more relaxed. At the same time, the addition of the black lace neck accessory and arm sleeves gave the overall styling a bit more mystery. During the shoot, a light-colored oiled-paper umbrella and a blue-and-gold long sword were used as props, which, when paired with different body actions, kept the frame from appearing too monotonous.
As a male cosplaying a female character, the hardest part to master is the presentation of body curves and feminine softness. I didn't deliberately pursue excessive gentleness, but instead tried to combine Keqing's firmness as the Yuheng with the contrast of relaxing at night. For the shooting lighting, we combined the warm-toned lanterns inherent to the venue, and added some cool-toned blue light in the background. This overlapping of cool and warm gave the black clothes more layering in the dim environment, while also making the blue-purple of the skirt more vivid. When posing for sitting postures, attention had to be paid to straightening the waist and back and the crossing angle of the legs, so as to better showcase the tailoring of this outfit and one's own physique.
In terms of wearing the costume, to ensure the strapless bodice stayed snugly fit, some anti-slip props were also used to prevent accidents during wide-amplitude movements. This attempt at Opulent Splendor required a lot of effort in both clothing matching and character interpretation, from early test makeup to continuous adjustments in front of the lens later on, every step required patience. I hope this set of photos can showcase that romance belonging to Liyue's nights and Keqing's unique charm.
