This set of nighttime convention photos for Azur Lane Formidable cosplay in a Bunny girl outfit was shot during the Chengdu Worldline Anime Exhibition. I chose this outfit primarily because I had cosplayed Formidable in other designs before, and this time wanted to explore a more playful Bunny girl style with a charming contrast. After receiving the costume, the craftsmanship of the white velvet corset and black lace details was far better than expected, though putting it on and taking it off took some patience. For this coordination, I specifically prepared extra-long pale-blonde twin tails; the plush bunny ears on top and the white fluffy tail behind were the finishing touches, bobbing delightfully as I walked to create an exceptionally lively effect.
The Black stockings and the criss-cross strapping along the legs were the focal points of this styling. Sheer Black stockings look incredible under nighttime illumination, yet they also pose quite a challenge for lighting. Fortunately, the photographer was very professional, and the nighttime fill light clearly preserved both the subtle jacquard motifs on the white corset and the smooth texture of the Black stockings. Because we were in an outdoor plaza, the ground temperature was quite low; stepping onto the rug in only Black stockings after removing my shoes was definitely chilly on my soles, but seeing the contrast between leg contours and light and shadow in the final shots made it all worthwhile. For props, I brought along three chubby yellow plush dolls and arranged them on a white faux-fur mat, adding a touch of cuteness to the overall alluring atmosphere.
Posing tension was crucial during the shoot. The character of Formidable inherently carries an elegant grace; combined with Bunny girl attire, I made sure to keep my back straight and my arm curves soft while posing. The sideways glance-back poses in Photos 1 and 4 required engaging my core to sustain posture. Because the twin tails were so long, they easily tangled around my arms or outfit when turning, so my assistant continuously helped groom my hair beside me. Expression management couldn't be too rigid either; to match the nighttime atmosphere, a slightly cool, aloof gaze with lips slightly parted, paired with red contacts, conveyed a much richer sense of narrative.
The atmosphere at the Chengdu Anime Convention has always been fantastic. Although it was windy that night, many fellow fans came over to say hello, politely waiting until we wrapped up a sequence of shots before stepping forward for meetups and photo ops. The color grading of the entire set leans toward moody dark tones without exaggerated filters, primarily aiming to capture that collision between urban nightscapes and ACG culture. The contrast between highlights and shadows on the Black stockings under the lights made body curves appear more dimensional. The costume fabric subtly reflected light, so in post-processing I only slightly adjusted contrast and saturation to keep the natural texture of skin and fabrics intact.
Wrapping up this shoot was already late at night; taking off the wig felt like my scalp could finally breathe. Long hair easily tangles in the night breeze, requiring lots of time for detangling and care back home. The three yellow chick plushies also took up quite a bit of space, but it was worth the trouble to enrich the visual storytelling. For this Formidable cosplay Bunny girl look, I am personally very pleased with its tailoring and coordination—especially the classic black-and-white palette accented with gold accessories, clean yet rich in detail. If there are suitable indoor studio opportunities later, I might consider shooting another version with softer lighting setups.
