These convention photos of Ganyu in her cheongsam from Genshin Impact were captured candidly on the expo floor. Instead of opting for an elaborate studio set, we directly leveraged the dense overhead lighting grid of the exhibition hall as the backdrop. The creamy, blurred bokeh of the background naturally brought out a cool-toned ambiance that harmonized flawlessly with Ganyu's inherent Cryo attributes.

The overarching concept behind this styling was to strike a delicate equilibrium between the character's original celestial innocence and the mature elegance of a cheongsam. The wig was trimmed in layered sections with softly textured bangs, and the red-and-black horn accessories on either side were reinforced with hidden bobby pins to keep them firmly in place while walking. The makeup featured blue-purple colored contacts alongside a cool-toned, porcelain base to emphasize a clear, translucent complexion. The modified cheongsam itself features an ice-blue cloud-and-water motif over a white foundation, cut with a sleeveless silhouette and a traditional mandarin collar. The teardrop-shaped cutout beneath the collar serves as the visual centerpiece of the outfit; to balance the exposed chest area, a golden bell accessory—an iconic element from her canonical design—was suspended there.

To enrich the visual layering of the arms, dark blue opera gloves extending to the elbows were added, creating a seamless gradient transition against the light blue hair. For the lower half, rather than conventional white stockings, I opted for sheer black stockings featuring panel seam detailing. Black stockings provide a slimming visual effect, which, when paired with white platform high heels, maximally elongated the leg lines to give my entire posture a tall, slender silhouette.

For props, I prepared a folding fan and an oiled-paper umbrella. The folding fan was primarily used for subtle interactions involving the wrists, neck, and shoulders. For instance, the pose in photo 1—raising one leg slightly while holding the fan—not only showcased the entire ensemble but also accentuated the dress's high side slit and the curves of the legs. The paper umbrella was utilized to enrich environmental storytelling: when opened, the floral motifs across the canopy echoed the blue brushstrokes on the dress. When closed (as shown in photo 3), resting the umbrella on the floor like a walking cane while leaning slightly sideways with crossed legs sculpted the body lines beautifully, making the silhouette even more pronounced.

Lighting is invariably the greatest hurdle during convention shoots. To make the subject stand out against a bustling background, we utilized the high overhead hall lighting in tandem with portable fill lights to illuminate the face and preserve the fine embroidery details on the fabric. Furthermore, because stocking textures produce subtle highlights under direct lighting, fine-tuning the angles helped prevent overexposed white patches while preserving a natural, translucent skin-peeking finish. Since this cheongsam features a form-fitting cut demanding clean lines across the waist, abdomen, and shoulders, I did light stretching before the shoot to ensure natural posture.

Looking at the finished frames, the half-body composition in photo 2 is a personal favorite—the tactile texture of the gloves, the metallic sheen of the bell, and the engaging eye contact were all captured with great finesse. In photo 4, using the paper umbrella as a foreground framing element naturally guided visual focus toward the face. Overall, this was an immensely delightful convention shoot, and I hope this photo set showcases the unique charm of this outfit within character cosplay.
