[Albion Cosplay] White Elf in a Chinese Courtyard: Azur Lane Summer Refreshing Festival Photoshoot

The theme for this work was "A Clash Between Chinese Style and Shipgirls," where I portrayed Albion from Azur Lane. Taking advantage of the 2024 Port Summer Refreshing Festival event, I completed this set infused with traditional Chinese charm.

The wig was a striking silver-white color, reaching almost to my waist. Because it was straight, it couldn't look flat against the scalp; I had to spray setting product to maintain light volume. For headwear, I selected small pearl-textured accessories that matched the pure white baseline of the outfit. In fact, prepping the costume and accessories took considerable time, especially styling and securing the wig, because the ornaments needed to hang at specific positions. The wig had to be worn securely while blending seamlessly with the headpieces without awkward gaps. Applying the pointed elf ears also required precision—beyond slotting them at the base of the ear, they had to be glued firmly to prevent slipping during frequent posing. Pulling off this silver-white hair color heavily tested skin tone and makeup base, so I deliberately enhanced the translucency of my foundation to complement the cool tones.

Regarding the costume, the design integrated traditional and modern aesthetics. The halter neckline didn't look bulky, instead emphasizing the shoulder and neck lines, while the emerald gemstone clasp in the center anchored the expansive white fabric. The lace trims and mesh paneling were delicately crafted. The lower half featured an ultra-high slit design paired with White stockings, garter straps with metal buckles, and white pointed-toe high heels, capturing the slender lines characteristic of 2D anime characters. Since this was for the 2024 Port Summer Refreshing Festival, the breathability of this outfit was truly on point; the high slit and White stockings became a clear advantage during a warm outdoor shoot.

For makeup, I aimed for a cool, refined elf aura. The eyebrows weren't drawn too heavy, the eye makeup incorporated subtle blue-purple hues to echo the hair color, and the lips were kept a natural nude-pink to keep the overall atmosphere clear and luminous.

The shooting location was a traditional Chinese architectural courtyard that I love. The weathered wooden pillars had a textured patina from sun and wind, and the bluestone pavement felt grounded underfoot. During shooting, we utilized the red wooden square table and carved end tables on site. The collision between traditional Chinese elements and modern white elf attire formed a unique harmony within this gray-brick, green-tiled courtyard, creating a striking visual impact that bridged the 2D world and reality. The thick wooden pillars brought an innate sense of history, and against the red-lacquered doors and windows, my white tulle outfit stood out with fairy-like grace.

For poses in the photos, I held onto the large wooden pillars, lifted one leg lightly, or shaded my eyes from the piercing sunlight with one hand. These poses look simple, but maintaining balance while wearing a form-fitting dress and tall heels—while coordinating gaze and angles—demanded solid core control. Especially when standing on one leg, finding a steady anchor was crucial to look relaxed rather than stiff. The white high heels were quite tall, and with the snug outfit, every step on the slightly uneven bluestone floor had to be carefully grounded.

Photographer Du Du was fantastic, guiding poses and capturing candid moments with great skill. She keenly caught the light filtering through the eaves onto my shoulders and skirt hem, adding a luminous feel to the photos. With every scene change, she adjusted camera angles according to the background, ensuring the garment's cut and my expressions were fully documented. Collaborating on ideas—like using light, shadow, and red brick backdrops for visual depth—made the process joyful and efficient.

Every cosplay requires immense effort, from character selection, wardrobe and prop research, to makeup and pose planning. A great set of photos is both a tribute to the character and an expression of oneself. Combining Albion's shipgirl persona with Chinese-style cosplay was an exciting exploration, and I hope this style showcases a different side of the character.

The sun was quite strong on the shoot day. To avoid overexposure, facial expressions were kept somewhat restrained in certain shots, but I was very pleased with the final outcome. The white dress reflected a soft sheen under sunlight, and the texture of the White stockings looked delicate in natural light.

Looking back at these photos, I really adore this cool, clean texture. Though exhausted after walking so much and dealing with a sore neck from removing the wig, seeing the final results made everything completely worthwhile. That is the joy of pursuing what you love; sticking with your passion is a very cool thing in itself.
