This styling features Amu Hinamori from Shugo Chara!, transformed into Ran's signature pink cheerleader uniform. For the wig, I selected a bright, vibrant pink, trimmed blunt bangs across the forehead, secured the twin tails, and accessorized with a pink-and-white headband adorned with heart emblems. To evoke the authentic aesthetic of classic retro anime, the eye makeup utilized soft pink blending, paired with a lively, high-saturation pink lip tint.
Regarding the wardrobe: the top is a sleeveless pink crop top trimmed with ruffled borders, accented at the neckline by a thick crimson satin ribbon offering a fluid drape. A slim red cord belt tied into a bow cinches the waist, complementing the pink pleated mini skirt. The arm sleeves are also finished with red ruffled edges to maintain visual continuity. For props, I prepared two giant pink pom-poms; to boost light reflection, I deliberately selected metallic iridescent plastic foil strips dusted with subtle glitter, hand-sewing individual red heart patches onto them for a sturdy, tactile grip.
The shooting location was an empty classroom, where the chalk blackboard and wooden desks behind me naturally radiated an anime school vibe. Simple foreign phrases were chalked onto the board to enhance compositional depth. Portraying a cheerleader meant virtually zero stillness throughout the session—I spent the entire shoot jumping, leaping, and bouncing. As the photographer fired bursts, I continually calibrated the swing arcs of the pom-poms while sustaining infectious, buoyant energy in my expression. Mid-jump, the pleated skirt hem and twin pigtails whipped through the air, infusing frames with powerful kinetic momentum.
The greatest challenges during the shoot were managing physical fatigue from repetitive jumping and preventing the bulky pom-poms from obstructing my face. To channel that youthful, spirited heroism of a magical girl, I modulated my gaze to project firm, radiant determination rather than a passive sweet smile. Because the pink palette easily bleaches out under harsh classroom fluorescent lights, we angled carefully to prevent facial flare while preserving the garment's rich tonal nuances.
The styling and props were all meticulously crafted step by step by hand. The pom-poms were substantially heavier than expected, leaving my arms aching by wrap time, while the pink wig demanded regular detangling between takes. We are currently curating raw files and color grading, aiming to retain that pure, unadulterated retro vitality without excessive skin smoothing. Looking forward to sharing the official set soon!
