Today's set features the idol concept of Amu Hinamori cosplay. To match this theme, the costume chosen was a pink idol stage outfit. The details are intricate, with heavy layering of ruffles, lace, and bows across the chest and skirt. The multi-tiered puffy skirt especially required constant readjustment during outdoor shooting to avoid looking bulky. The pink short bob wig was trimmed and styled beforehand, with the ends curled inward slightly for added lightness, and hairspray was used to set the bangs against outdoor breezes. For makeup, the focus was placed on the eyes, matched with brown contact lenses and pink lipstick to highlight the energetic idol vibe. The choker and the pink leg wrap straps are key styling elements, requiring careful wrapping and securing before shooting to ensure they wouldn't slip while walking and jumping.
The shoot took place along the streets outside the Guangzhou Firefly ACG Expo. Outdoor natural light is great for highlighting fabric texture, though strong sunlight required adjusting angles to prevent harsh facial shadows. To convey an idol stage presence, poses were designed around holding a microphone, lifting one leg with the body slightly angled, and extending the other hand outward. This pose really tests core strength: when balancing on one leg, the upper body must remain steady while pointing the toes and locking the knees to create a light, dynamic look. Driven by movement, the skirt's rich tiers flaring out naturally added great tension to the composition, though constant care was needed to avoid wardrobe slips and rely on the petticoat's support to maintain its shape.
In terms of facial expression, capturing the feel of a stage performance meant maintaining an interactive gaze rather than looking casual like a typical street snap. Because the costume includes many strappy lace-up details, I communicated camera positions and angles with the photographer beforehand to best showcase the leg lines and rich layers of the idol stage outfit.
The temperature was quite warm at the expo, making an outdoor shoot in such a complex costume physically exhausting. Fortunately, the photographers and assistants on-site were fantastic, continually helping adjust my skirt and straps, which made everything run much more smoothly. Expressing an idol persona relies on eye contact and dynamic movements without looking stiff on camera. Trying many candid action captures during this shoot not only highlighted the intricate details of the costume, but also brought Amu Hinamori's energetic spirit vividly to life for these convention photos.
