[Remilia cosplay] Eternal Night Graveyard and Crimson Cross

Standing in this Gothic dress amidst the smoky set, I feel this photoshoot captures Remilia's night aura to the very core. I usually review the character settings before every shoot, and this indoor graveyard set gave us plenty of room to express ourselves. The black classical pillars, the tombstone engraved with RIP, the scattered red roses, the specially chosen skeleton model, and the glowing pink cross behind me—every single element serves the "Eternal Night" atmosphere.

The details of this costume are exquisitely crafted. On the surface, it follows a classic black-and-pinkish-purple Gothic Lolita framework, but great care was taken with everything from the lace trim on the bonnet to the layered ruffles of the skirt to ensure proper shape and weight on camera. The silk bows and metal buttons on the chest provide just the right accents, which, along with the sheer black sleeves and bat-patterned black tights, give the look strong visibility even in dark tones. The wig is light blue with smooth strands, trimmed just right to reveal the collarbone, displaying realistic hair texture under strong backlight.

The lighting design on the day of the shoot was my favorite surprise. Sakuya had her own set of tricks with the shutter control, especially her use of the reflective floor, which created a perfect sense of depth in the final images. In the seated photo you see, the complete mirror reflection is preserved: the glossy sheen of the red apple and the pink glow of the cross stretch across the dark floor, filling the visual layers. I kept adjusting my center of gravity during the shoot because a seated skirt can easily look bulky if not arranged properly. I propped myself up slightly with my arm to let the skull prop rest naturally beside me, opening up the silhouette of the skirt.

Regarding prop selection, the red apple acts as a direct metaphor while adding a pop of bright color to brighten the frame. To make the red stand out even more, the photographer deliberately used cool lighting. This contrast between warm and cool tones preserves the dark Gothic feel while making the subject more three-dimensional, preventing the background darkness from swallowing the subject.

It took about half a day from concept to completion. Capturing character expressions in thick fog from smoke cakes truly tested both the camera's autofocus and my facial expression control. Whenever a gust of wind blew, smoke would cover half my face, so many moments relied on instinctive reactions. Looking back at the final shots, the eye focus is spot on, which is probably the most satisfying part of this shoot. As a vampire who usually resides in Gensokyo, I tried my best to align with the core essence of the character, from the luster of the costume to the depth in her eyes.

Every time I cosplay a character, it's never just a matter of slipping into a costume. The weight of the clothes, the way the hair settles with movement, and even the split second the red apple is tossed into the air all shape the final texture and atmosphere. Whether it's the composition of the mirror reflections or the naturally lazy posture, I hope this shoot conveys Remilia's original charm—both haughty and playful. This collaboration was wonderful, as the gloomy yet gorgeous scenery finally aligned perfectly with my vision. The overall result exceeded my expectations.
