The Night photography photos for this Flower Reimu set are finally sorted out. The shoot took place in the plum blossom grove at Luogang Xiangxue Park in Guangzhou, right during the peak blooming season. Departing from conventional daytime shoots, we opted for a night setting with subtle low light. To craft the dreamy atmosphere described, the lighting setup primarily utilized backlighting and side-backlighting. The backlighting not only gave the petals a translucent glow, but also sculpted the outer silhouette of my hair, highlighting the rich textures of the red ribbon bow and skirt lace in particular. In terms of post-processing, you can see numerous foreground elements and bokeh flares added across the images—a clever touch by photographer Manman R (漫漫R) in composition, using blurred branches as foreground frames to enhance visual depth while avoiding background clutter.

Because it was a night shoot with complex lighting, close coordination between the cosplayer and photographer was critical. For this Flower Reimu look, the red-and-white dress is the centerpiece—featuring an oversized red ribbon bow, twin tails, and flower-adorned props in hand. To be honest, while gorgeous, wearing this costume was by no means easy; the wide skirt and oversized sleeves required immense caution while posing on tree branches to avoid snagging the sleeve lace. But to match the theme of resting gently in the trees, all the effort was well worth it. It's worth mentioning that the White stockings with lace trim used here appeared exceptionally luminous in the dim environment, contrasting vividly against the red dress while flattering the leg lines. Sitting on tree branches required keeping leg poses elegant and natural while guarding against accidental exposure, proving to be quite a physical workout.

This shoot was completed in collaboration with Qiezi (茄子). Moving through the plum blossom woods, scouting camera angles, and posing came with small hurdles like dialing in the lights. Because the ambient night brightness was extremely low, lighting was essential to illuminate my face while capturing the falling petals. The photographer utilized a wide aperture to turn falling petals into foreground bokeh, softening visual clutter while bestowing an ethereal, fairy-like quality to the scene. In the third photo, closing my eyes and reaching into mid-air portrays an attempt to catch falling petals—a gesture requiring great physical stability, as any slight tremor would shift foreground lighting and composition. The fourth image is a diptych with one shot looking down and one looking up, showing contrasting expressions. However, based on personal preference, I chose a cover image that best accentuated the details of the red-and-white shrine maiden dress and leg contours.

Overall, this night shoot faced numerous challenges, but the resulting photos were truly delightful. Plum blossoms at night, generous negative space, and the red-and-white outfit against cool tones evoked a tranquil yet passionate aura. For fans of Touhou Project, this serves as a distinctive interpretation of Flower Reimu. Washing the costume afterward took a long time due to dirt and bark from the trees, and the lighting crew constantly adjusted angles to keep the frame clean. Evoking the right emotions was crucial in this environment, channeling Reimu's signature blend of languor and vigilance within Gensokyo. For the low-angle shot in the top half of the fourth image, the tree branches were actually poking me uncomfortably, but I had to hold completely still for the shot. From facial expressions to minute physical gestures, every element was carefully deliberated to achieve the final presentation.
