[Kochiya Sanae Cosplay] Spring Breeze and the Moriya Prayer Amidst Waves of Wheat

The initial intent for this shoot was to restore the character's agility within a natural field setting. Choosing this wheat field location shoot was because its vast green expanse perfectly sets off the tones of the wig and outfit, infusing the entire frame with life. In fact, during location scouting, we found this area extremely wide-open with rapidly shifting light conditions, meaning we had to seize the golden lighting window between 2:00 and 3:00 PM.

The props featured in the set, such as the golden bells and colored ribbons, heavily tested our patience on set. Since the wind in the field came in unpredictable gusts rather than a continuous stream, the ribbons were incredibly lightweight, easily tangling with the bells or blowing directly onto my face to block the view. After each shutter click, time had to be spent rearranging the props to ensure the shape for the next snapshot was accurate.

Regarding the fabric choices, the combination of the white top and the blue-and-white patterned skirt hem presented a soft sheen under the light. The detached sleeve design increased the range of motion, though it also added to the setup time cost. The multi-layered lace on the skirt gave the outfit a certain weight, but it was precisely this weightiness that allowed the dress to swing out into a full, visually striking circular silhouette during rapid spins. To achieve the natural, flowing effect in the images, the photographer and I repeatedly experimented with the momentum and angles of swinging the bells, even trying different starting actions before finally determining to drive the force with my right arm.

For the lighting, we deliberately picked an afternoon with thin clouds, allowing the sunlight filtering through the cloud layer to form a soft diffused illumination. This not only rendered the green of the wheat field beautifully translucent but also prevented facial makeup overexposure or harsh dark shadows. During the process, I specifically reminded the photographer to avoid clutter in the frame, such as redundant stray branches or drones, keeping the foreground clean. The fine light particles in the frame are post-production special effects, aimed at making the air look lighter to match the spring setting while enhancing the overall dreaminess.

Throughout the entire shoot, the most crucial elements to control were facial expressions and limb movements. This Touhou Project character gives me an aura that is slightly divine yet immensely approachable, so I strove to maintain a gentle smile while keeping my eyes focused and coordinating with the props. To avoid stiff movements, I would turn my wrists to swing the ribbons while rotating my body gently, letting the skirt expand naturally. The exact moment the skirt spins is incredibly difficult to capture, requiring a shutter speed synced perfectly with the rhythm of the wind. We shot continuously over a long sequence, eventually selecting cuts where the skirt expanded evenly without the ribbons obscuring my face or the main props.

The final color tones didn't undergo any exaggerated grading; they were micro-adjusted based on the vivid light-green palette of the field that day, preserving the intricate details of the dress patterns. As an outdoor shoot, despite running under the sun all day and getting my legs scratched up by wheat leaves, seeing the harmony between the waves of wheat and the golden bells makes all the exhaustion completely worthwhile. I hope this set conveys the unique temperament of the character while recording this boundless green and the traces of the wind for every ACG Cosplayer to see.
