Collaborating with Kasumi Studio this time, I tried to combine Rem from Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- with Chinese-style Qipao elements. Rem's original image is a representative of coolness and gentleness, but when such a 2D character collides with a classical Ancient style scene, it indeed produces an unexpected beauty.
To restore the delicate emotion that "if love has a color," I took many considerations into the design details of the costume. The white main tone paired with golden embellishments, set against the backdrop of the sea of flowers, not only retains Rem's iconic agile temperament but also incorporates the elegance of Eastern aesthetics. Especially the photographer Lao Deng's capture of light and shadow perfectly set off that beautiful and slightly premium atmosphere.
In fact, during the cosplay process, the most core part is how to balance restoration and creative expression. This Qipao look is not just a simple disguise, but an attempt to endow the character with a new visual expression while retaining her soul. I hope that through this visual presentation, everyone who likes Rem can see this collision of Chinese aesthetics, and also display the infinite possibilities of Qipao as a traditional garment in modern 2D creation. This cross-boundary collision is really interesting.
