Photo drop from the TCD anime convention on July 28, 2024, captured through the brilliant lens of master photographer Da Pan. This series was photographed predominantly inside the convention venue; with the dense foot traffic and cluttered backdrop posing a constant challenge, Da Pan deliberately selected a low-key, moody lighting approach. Using overhead spotlight pools paired with sculpted lateral rim lighting, he separated my figure cleanly from the chaotic environment, elevating the cinematic depth and dimensional texture of every frame. While ambient lighting at an anime convention is notoriously harsh and flat, his technique of using a single hard key light to overpower and crush the ambient shadows generated an authentic studio-quality finish, rimming the contours of the wig to make the light-blue tresses look exquisitely ethereal and translucent.
The wardrobe represents a quintessential Gothic-inspired black-and-white Maid outfit boasting elaborate construction: a structured black underbust corset paired with cascading, tiered white ruffled petticoats. Although the layers felt undeniably warm and stuffy across a long day on the floor, doing justice to the character's design made every bit of effort worthwhile. The full-length White stockings, adorned with delicate lace garter cuffs and anchored by glossy black platform Mary Jane shoes, stood out as an undeniable visual highlight. To nail the full-body compositions, I practiced controlled pirouettes beforehand, allowing the flared skirt to billow out dynamically while flattering the elongated leg contours. Because White stockings easily blow out and lose textural fidelity under high-contrast flash, Da Pan calibrated the lighting ratios with extreme precision, flawlessly preserving the tactile weave and delicate scalloped lace.
Throughout the shoot, I explored varied dynamic poses: an interactive frontal half-body portrait extending a hand toward the camera lens to evoke an intimate narrative connection, a glance back over the shoulder highlighting the silhouette's graceful curves, and a full-body stance with one knee gently bent to let the ruffled hem drape naturally while framing the leg detailing. For the makeup, vivid aqua-blue contacts were paired with soft coral blush and crisp red lips, keeping facial contours dimensional and striking even under dramatic shadows. Grooming the wig required meticulous care so that each strand of the blunt bangs and face-framing fringe fell into a clean, disciplined sweep. This collection stands not merely as a faithful reproduction of a classic heroine from Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-, but as a dedicated showcase of tailoring and silhouette. Receiving the generous encouragement of fellow fans on-site and collaborating with such an adept photographer made this an unforgettable convention journey. This set serves as both a treasured commemorative keepsake and a comprehensive creative milestone, and I extend my sincere gratitude to Da Pan for his patient on-site guidance and impeccable shutter timing.
