Trying out this custom nurse design Rem cosplay, the most intuitive feeling overall is how meticulously the clothing pattern flatters body curves. The light blue nurse uniform underwent major modifications from the original design, adopting a large-area cutout design. To ensure the fit during shooting, I used safety pins to tighten it around the back before starting, which not only made the waistline clearer but also allowed the ruffles and bow in the chest area to present a naturally crisp state. The button-down design at the neckline visually added a sense of formality, yet paired with the chest cutout, it broke the rigidity, forming a subtle balance.
The wig is one of the souls of this styling. To style that fluffy yet layered short hair, I used a curling iron beforehand to create a slight arc, and then used hair wax to grab some messy stray strands. The blue hair has a very high color saturation, so when shooting in natural light, special attention needed to be paid to reflection issues. I chose a spot close to the window, utilizing soft diffuse light to highlight the texture of the clothing while making the facial makeup look clearer and more translucent. In terms of makeup, the blending at the outer corners of the eyes and the glossiness of the lips were heavily emphasized, striving to present a natural yet exquisite state in front of the lens.
The treatment of leg details is also a plus for the entire styling. White stockings are paired with white lace-edged shorts featuring garters, and the black cross clips on the outer thighs are not only decorations but also nicely divide the visual proportions. To shoot the ideal lines, I repeatedly adjusted my posture in front of the mirror. Eventually, I found that turning slightly sideways and bending one leg slightly while holding the white plush doll against my chest with both hands can nicely flatter the figure and give the frame a better sense of story. The light blue slippers on the feet feature small animal dolls; this cute element neutralizes the sexiness of the outfit, making the overall atmosphere fit the character's temperament better.
Regarding the design intention behind this custom concept, it mainly revolves around the theme 'If true love has a color.' Blue itself is a very pure color, pairing with white to look extremely refreshing. I didn't entirely copy the attire from the original work, instead incorporating professional characteristics of a nurse's uniform along with some elements I personally like, such as leg rings and garters. I know this might deviate from the character image in some people's cognition, commonly known as OOC, but I feel fan creation itself is a form of re-interpretation—exploring more possibilities while retaining the core traits of the character.
The shooting location was chosen as my home bedroom. The wooden bed frame and clothes rack full of clothes in the background are all real daily states, without deliberately building a complex studio. The advantage of taking selfies in front of a full-length mirror is being able to see the composition and lighting in real-time; the downside is that the phone always blocks part of the face, so I would try to expose facial makeup and expressions as much as possible by adjusting the phone's position. The plush toy held in hand was casually placed on the bed before shooting, and I didn't expect that holding it as a prop would nicely fill the blank space in the chest and make the pose more natural.
The entire process—from styling the wig, doing makeup, matching outfits, to adjusting lighting—was done entirely by myself by hand. Although somewhat cumbersome, seeing myself in the mirror gradually approach the conception in my mind, that sense of fulfillment was very real. Without exaggerated special effects and complex post-processing, it's simply recording this attempt as a footprint of mine on the path of cosplay.
