This studio shoot at Mengxiang D2 directly plunged into the daily routine of the Scarlet Devil Mansion. We mainly wanted to restore that slightly subtle yet heartwarming interactive feeling between the Young Mistress and the Second Young Mistress. Both outfits this time had an abundance of details. My pink tulle long dress features a semi-transparent lace shawl on the outer layer; to present the best effect in front of the lens, every layer of pleats and lace trim on the skirt hem was carefully ironed and organized beforehand. The black bat wings on the back are fixed to the inner lining, requiring a slight sideways turn during shooting so that the outline of the wings appears more complete in the frame. My partner's red-and-white color-blocked dress focuses on a huge red bow and layered lace skirt edges. The white stockings paired with red small leather shoes elongate the leg lines, perfectly catching the visual focus during sitting and stretching movements. The brown teddy bear held in hand, after sewing on a pink satin ribbon, became an excellent prop connecting the interaction between the two. The shooting scene was decorated with metal trusses and some polyhedral colored string lights, matching a blue background board to create a fantastical incident atmosphere. To showcase the theme of the night banquet, we used relatively strong hard lighting and a low camera angle, which not only cast sharply contoured huge shadows on the background board to enhance the dramatic tension of the image, but also visually elongated the character proportions. We tried many different combinations of actions, such as one person sitting and holding the bear while the other stands behind the side, or both back-to-back, reaching out towards the lens. When portraying these two characters, managing their expressions is crucial—maintaining slightly reddish pupils and a somewhat aloof expression, while revealing that sisterly bond during physical contacts like touching each other's faces or holding hands. This sense of contrast was the focus of our continuous communication and adjustment during the shoot. The entire shooting process was actually a severe test of physical strength and cervical spine, especially having to maintain suspended sitting postures or outstretched arm movements, but seeing the effect of shadows and colors colliding in the raw photos, all the refinement of these details felt entirely worth it.
