Shooting this Rem cosplay photoshoot from Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World, I specifically selected two indoor sets with strong contrast. The first was beside a vintage, moody fireplace, holding a heavy golden picture frame as a prop; to achieve the best visual effect, I adjusted my posture several times—my arms were aching, but it allowed me to present an elegant demeanor. Later, we transitioned to an area with floor-to-ceiling windows and a sofa where the lighting was soft. The White stockings displayed exceptional texture under natural light, and combined with that black-and-white Maid outfit cosplay, the whole mood immediately transformed. The gear used for the shoot was a Sony α7 IV paired with an FE 50mm F1.2 GM lens; the wide aperture performed fantastically indoors. This costume has intricate details, especially the lace ruffles, which were tricky to manage—it took quite a while to arrange the skirt hem into a well-defined, three-dimensional silhouette. Standing on one leg or crossing legs visually elongated leg proportions, and pairing them with Mary Jane shoes matched the vintage tone wonderfully. In post-processing, we focused on refining skin tones and smoothing garment wrinkles, striving to restore the character's quiet, refined 2D temperament. The shoot was very enjoyable, communicating numerous details with the photographer. Ultimately, these photos were selected, and I'm sharing my shooting experience and styling insights—anyone who loves this vintage aesthetic can check it out. After completing this set, I also reflected on a few posture flaws, hoping to improve next time and capture even more faithful details. In addition to what was mentioned, the lens used was mainly a 50mm prime wide open at maximum aperture, delivering ideal background bokeh. In low-light scenes, fill light was applied from certain angles to highlight the frame and character, illuminating the face to make the makeup look cleaner. Matching White stockings is a vital part of recreating the character; because it can easily look unnatural, I specifically chose a mild-compression style that made my legs appear straighter and prevented glare. Honestly, standing in this costume was uncomfortable because the corset was bound tightly, but to present a flawless side silhouette, I persevered throughout the entire day. When moving to the brighter set with sunlight streaming through the windows, I used a 24-70mm lens to shoot several full-body shots. Since the ambient light was quite white, highlights were pulled down in post to retain the fabric's layered textures. During the shoot, I constantly turned to check the monitor to verify catchlights in the shadowed eye areas. Every time I do cosplay for intricate outfits like this, immense time goes into adjusting props and clothing—such as the positioning angle of the frame or the tightness of the headpiece. In short, every shoot deepens my understanding of the character, and I look forward to doing even better next time by applying all these lessons.
