Today I want to share the details behind shooting this Azur Lane Akimitsu cosplay Convention photo set. The outfit blends Eastern fantasy with modern tailoring, centered on an obsidian black and icy blue color scheme. To replicate the character's rich textures, the top was crafted with a halter-neck form-fitting cut, layered with a sweeping black lace capelet collar. The neckline was accented with slender blue ribbons and tassels that swayed gracefully with every movement.
For the wig, I selected long wavy silver-grey hair with meticulously styled bangs, topped with hair accessories featuring blue feathers and floral motifs. To harmonize with the cool palette, the eye makeup was given deeper dimension to sharpen the gaze with striking intensity.
The most complex aspect of this styling lay in the waist ribbons and skirt trail. The elongated trailing sashes had to be pinned securely at the waist with hidden internal boning to allow them to flare naturally during dynamic poses. Dark blue feathers adorned the shoulders and waistline edges; each feather had to be hand-glued individually, requiring extreme care throughout the shoot to keep them from bending or shedding.
The folding fan prop was custom-made, pairing black lace leaves with a metallic frame to echo the garment's tactile finish. To elongate the silhouette, the lower half paired black lace shorts with over-the-knee Black stockings and glossy black stilettos, visually extending leg lines cleanly.
The shoot took place inside a convention hall packed with overhead lights that could easily flatten exposures if shot directly. The photographer skillfully capitalized on the ambient lights, opening up the aperture to melt background fixtures into smooth circular bokeh halos, yielding a dramatic stage feel. To enrich the foreground, we arranged blue-and-white porcelain vases, peacock feathers, jade ornaments, thread-bound classic books, and teaware. These props eliminated visual emptiness while elevating the character's icy, glamorous aura.
Because the styling carried numerous streamers, posing called for expansive, dynamic limbs. For instance, holding the fan across the chest with the right hand while extending the left arm back, bending the knees slightly with feet staggered, maximized the cut of the dress and natural body curves. Blue petals scattered across the floor added subtle atmospheric magic.
During initial fittings, this outfit felt challenging to wear without looking bulky due to the feathers and lengthy ribbons. Yet through measured posing and refined camera angles during the live shoot, the final selects exceeded expectations. Color grading cooled down the scene, sharpening the contrast among black, blue, silver, and celadon to deliver a visual experience saturated with 2D Eastern fantasy allure.
