[Misaki cosplay] The Dress from Blue Archive—Does Sensei Like It?

I finally have the chance to organize and share the complete set of photos from the Misaki dress shoot taken on Day 3 of the Firefly ACG Expo, along with my thoughts during the shoot.

Regarding the outfit, black is truly the main theme of this dress. The halter neck and off-the-shoulder design, combined with the sheer black mesh on the sleeves, offer both a sense of mystery and clever design details. The velvet bow at the neckline and the lace panels on the chest are very delicate, especially the dual-flower embellishment of a blue rose and a black rose at the waist, adding a pop of vibrant color to the predominantly black attire. The headpiece is a silver-grey crescent moon with a lightweight metallic texture, paired with a blue butterfly hair accessory on one side and a low-tied, slightly longer ponytail, giving the overall styling a very comfortable head-to-body proportion.

On the day of the shoot, we specifically found a spot next to a high-rise floor-to-ceiling window. The urban buildings outside were blurred into a cool grey-blue backdrop. This quiet, cold natural light actually suited this dark dress very well, fitting the character's aura better than artificially warm lighting. At the venue, I tried several different poses. For instance, when sitting on the floor with legs extended naturally, the black high heels paired with black stockings effectively lengthened the visual lines, making the posture look sleeker. Standing while holding a black flower, the blue rose at the waist served as a great visual anchor, keeping the all-black outfit from feeling overly dull. There was also a candid shot of me raising one leg, where the hem of the dress spread out slightly with the movement and my ponytail floated up, instantly breaking the seriousness of a formal dress and adding a sense of agility and vitality fitting for the character.

The 2D anime expo was really bustling, but fortunately, Day 3 was slightly less crowded than the first two days, giving us the opportunity to find this quiet glass window in a corner. Photographer Mo Mo Li provided very meticulous guidance during the shoot, capturing both composition angles and ambient light perfectly. Considering the reflections on the high-floor glass window, we deliberately avoided direct overhead light angles and chose side natural light to make facial contours clearer without getting washed out by reflections. For makeup, I used a clean base, slightly emphasizing the eye contours, and wore light-colored contact lenses to soften my gaze, which, together with natural dark eyebrows, neutralized the sharpness that might be inherent in the character's traits.

The texture of this outfit is actually richer than it looks from a distance. The starry, glittering layer on the skirt creates subtle shimmers under the light; though subtle in photos, it adds a touch of elegance in person that fits the dress theme nicely. The wig was specially trimmed with flat bangs and a low ponytail. To achieve that airy feel seen in dynamic photos, we placed a portable fan on the side blowing gently, capturing the moment hair flew after several retakes. The shooting process wasn't easy—crouching, sitting, and standing repeatedly in high heels, adjusting arm positions again and again—but seeing the finished photos made all the effort feel completely worthwhile.

I personally think the small detail of the blue butterfly hair accessory is wonderful; it stands out against the black main tone and echoes the blue flower at the waist. When initially planning this look, I wondered how to make the posture look more elegant and natural while maintaining the character's traits. Later, practicing showed that sitting poses yield incredible shots, not only showcasing the layers of the skirt well but also highlighting leg lines. In fact, the night before the shoot, I was hesitating whether to wear these high heels to the expo, worrying about walking around all day, but for the completeness and poise of the overall look, I wore them anyway. As it turned out, pairing black stockings with pointed stiletto heels indeed makes legs look visually much longer.

This experience gave me more confidence in cosplaying dark-style characters in the future, working out practical experience from wig styling to accessory pairing. Looking out at the urban lights and shadows through the window, I felt a serenity and composure unique to the character. I hope the compositions selected here allow everyone to see the essence of this outfit at a glance—whether it's the texture of the black stockings or the layering of the skirt, I did my best to restore and present it. As the shoot ended and dusk fell, despite being physically exhausted, I felt deeply fulfilled inside.
