After wearing this Light blue maid outfit back from the July IJoy Anime convention, I hadn't properly organized the photos until now. Taking advantage of Rem's return, I revisited those convention photos from Re:Zero. The costume details are truly exquisite: multi-layered white lace borders the light-blue skirt hem, and the golden bell pendant around the neck sways gently while walking. The oversized sleeves drape beautifully. Securing the cat ears and hair accessories on my head took quite some time, and walking around the sweltering convention hall wearing White stockings left me drenched in sweat.
That one-legged pose with a raised foot in the first photo looks lively and adorable, but it severely tested my balance. I stood on one leg on the stage platform for a long time, maintaining a smile with cat-paw gestures while my calf muscles were literally trembling. The photographer, Teacher Xiaoxi, was very professional, constantly encouraging me to hold on for just a few more seconds and testing multiple angles to capture this lively dynamism. Pairing White stockings with platform Mary Janes looks wonderful, but standing on hard tile floors in the expo hall for extended periods really made my feet ache, constantly worrying about twisting an ankle or getting the stockings stepped on and dirtied.
The second medium shot holding the veil intentionally sought a backlit angle, where light filtered through the white lace netting onto my face, giving my whole figure a radiant, translucent glow. To catch this light, we shifted positions four or five times amidst crowds passing through, seizing brief windows of opportunity. With the veil draped over my head, everything in front of me was a hazy white mist; looking through it at the outer halos felt truly special, with that ethereal haze fitting the character's serene demeanor perfectly.
As Rem, mastering expressions and eye contact is crucial. I communicated constantly with Teacher Xiaoxi to balance maid-like cuteness with that intricate blend of tsundere pride and gentle warmth. Because the skirt volume is massive and putting it on is cumbersome, queuing to change in the morning took nearly half an hour. The aqua-blue fabric easily appeared dull and grayish in dim indoor ambient light; thanks to the photographer's reflector bounce, the crisp and clear translucent texture of the water-blue color was brought out.
Foot traffic at the Anime convention was huge, often requiring us to wait for background crowds to clear before pressing the shutter, and rushing to tidy up the wig and dress during every break. In truth, this is where the joy of cosplay lies: stepping into another persona through the character and freezing that moment in time through the lens. Although minor accidents occurred—such as the skirt snagging on a chair or the wig getting ruffled by gusts of wind—seeing the final photos made every effort worthwhile. Looking back at these photos, the bustling energy and sweat of that day feel as vivid as ever. My understanding of Rem has deepened through continuous portrayal, and I hope to always maintain this passion for character expression.
