Before putting on this Yin Ziping outfit, I did quite a bit of research on the fabric texture and silhouette. The costume features a palette primarily of white and light grey, retaining traditional Chinese accents through the mandarin collar and frog fasteners. The teardrop cutout on the chest along with cutouts at both sides of the waist visually accentuate the waistline. The sleeves feature ruffled flutter cuffs, and the skirt boasts multiple layers of lace and ruffled frills bordered by dark grey trim, keeping the whole silhouette both airy and structurally rich. To complement the outfit, I selected a pair of over-the-knee white stockings alongside pure white block-heeled pumps, achieving a cohesive head-to-toe color harmony. Under the strong outdoor sunlight, the sheer sheen of the white stockings appeared exquisitely silky.
For the makeup, the emphasis was on pink blush and soft reddish shading around the outer corners of the eyes. To better align with anime facial proportions, I chose iced milky black contacts. The outer rings of these lenses blend seamlessly without looking flatly black; under outdoor natural light, they evoke a dewy, glass-like clarity that makes the gaze feel vibrant and expressive. As for props, I prepared a white lace folding fan, a white straight sword, and several white ribbons. Wielding a sword calls for a totally different state of mind than holding a fan. When grasping the sword, the arms must engage with deliberate strength; pointing the blade forward or resting it across my chest required a crisp, resolute demeanor. When switching to the folding fan, my shoulders and wrists softened, lending gentler grace to every motion. The photographer, @Xiongzhua, offered expert guidance on posing, leading us through many dynamic postures—such as planting one foot up on the stone balustrade or perching along its ledge with legs crossed.
The shoot took place in a classical Chinese garden against a lush backdrop of verdant trees, stone bridges, and traditional pavilions. Sunlight filtered through the leaves, dappling the pavement and costume with delicate highlights and shadows. Sitting atop the stone balustrade required constant core engagement to stay upright on its uneven surface, all while managing the drape of the skirt so that the white stockings and pumps formed flattering visual lines in front of the lens. Despite pesky outdoor bugs, I held still to avoid disrupting the garment's lines. Transitioning between the folding fan and the sword, paired with fluttering tassels on the hair accessories and wrist ribbons, gradually brought out the immersive ambiance of the set.
Throughout the session, the crisp bright white of the outfit offered a striking contrast against the emerald greens of the garden. The visual impact of white stockings with heels on the stone railing, combined with the interplay of the fan and sword, beautifully conveyed the character's balance of tenderness and gallant resolve. The final images turned out very much in line with what I had envisioned prior to the shoot.
