I just finished organizing the Convention photos from the TCD convention on July 28, 2024, and mainly want to share some thoughts on this shoot and styling. In terms of details, this black-and-white maid outfit of Rem Cosplay is very intricate; the collar lace, multiple layers of the skirt, and the front white ruffled apron take a lot of time to put on and adjust. The overall color scheme centers on black and white, complemented by the blue wig, creating a comfortable visual contrast. The most exhausting part of attending conventions is wearing those heavy platform high-heeled Mary Janes—walking around in them all day truly tests your stamina, but it was worth enduring to capture the character's balance of elegance and coquettish charm.
Special thanks to photographer and retoucher Brother Zan for precisely mastering the venue's lighting. Because convention lighting is notoriously messy, he used portable strobe lights under the overhead lights for localized fill light on the face and costume, making it easy during post-processing to isolate the subject from the cluttered background and maintain a clean overall image. I especially want to mention the pose sitting on the floor in the second photo: we specifically framed that angle to show off leg proportions. Pairing White stockings with platform shoes, extending one leg forward, and pointing the instep straight allowed the telephoto lens compression to make the leg lines look even more slender. This pose demands serious core strength and balance, making standing back up quite tiring.
This costume is actually quite heavy with its inner lining, which, combined with the wig and accessories, made wearing it all day in late-July weather extremely sweltering. However, seeing so many fellow enthusiasts at the convention—many of whom were fans of Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-—and exchanging makeup and Cosplay photography tips greatly eased the physical exhaustion. Regarding makeup, to match the character design, I put special effort into the eyeshadow and eyeliner to accentuate the gaze, paired with red lips to convey a cool yet focused expression. For every cosplay shoot, beyond recreating the character's appearance, adjusting one's state in front of the lens and expressing the character's essence through body language is what matters most. I am very satisfied with the overall color fidelity and layered skirt hemlines—it was a thoroughly enjoyable shooting experience.
