The Convention photos set from Hangzhou Dreamland D2 is finally here! The schedule for the day was packed, but luckily there was plenty of space, and having passed the free pass evaluation smoothly made the overall shooting rhythm super seamless.
Inside, the venue features a classic industrial high-ceiling hall with dense arrays of warm spotlight beams lining the roof. Combined with concrete flooring, these lighting conditions naturally provided great material for color separation. In post-production, I simply desaturated the background environment slightly, allowing the costume tones of each character to pop immediately and sharply highlight the subject.
Today's shoot focused on several distinctly different styles. The set featuring a long blade combined black tights with a short Japanese-style top and a fresh pink wig, delivering strong visual impact with the character centered in the frame. Another set featured a blonde look in metallic armor wielding a greatsword; under the light, the outfit produced multi-layered crisp reflections that paired with a deep purple skirt for immense texture.
There were also sweeter, daily-style looks: a light blue Lolita-style dress, a white-and-blue sailor uniform with a youthful feel, and a pure white dress adorned with a massive angel halo and wings—all bringing great visual tension before the camera. Fluffy plush elements made frequent appearances in the styling as well, including a massive purple plush tail, pink beast ears, and a pair of tiny furry wings, infusing the overall aesthetic with a dreamy, cute charm.
Regarding props, besides long swords and polearms, I also prepared folding fans, magic staves, teddy bears, and flower bouquets. These small props proved remarkably practical during shooting, making arm placement feel natural and inspiring engaging interactive poses. Some particularly dynamic shots involved single-leg lifted compositions; maintaining balance was easy on the smooth convention floor, and paired with sheer tulle skirts and transparent high heels, the perspective alignment looked harmoniously balanced with a high yield of successful shots.
As a free pass participant in the convention, donning these complex accessories meant immediately adjusting to limited field of vision and weight distribution—navigating the crowd with the greatsword and huge tail required extra caution. Yet the moment the photographer calls 'start', focusing on balance and immersing oneself into planned poses instantly replaces all exhaustion with the venue's overwhelming enthusiasm.
The venue provided ample creative room for Anime-style photography. Although pass-by attendees or venue setups appeared in the background, careful perspective management and focal length adjustments rendered the frame clean and professional. Passersby frequently stopped to ask for photos—that live interactive energy felt wonderful. These Convention photos methodically documented both character proportions and intricate costume details; I am thoroughly satisfied with the final result and love the creative freedom of this event shoot.
