[Rem and Ram cosplay] Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-: Summer Pool Splashes

This water park photoshoot plan went off without a hitch. From the moment we decided to do a summer swimsuit series for Rem and Ram, we kept brainstorming how to merge the characters' signature traits with a refreshing summer ambiance. For wardrobe, we chose sheer, translucent hooded short-sleeved sailor cover-ups layered over pink-and-white and blue-and-white striped bikinis, accented with their iconic yellow neckties and over-the-knee White stockings. In terms of wig styling, to preserve three-dimensional structure even in water, we prepped with generous amounts of styling products and applied water-resistant sealing to the tips. Because water resistance creates significant drag, we thoroughly communicated positioning and motion range beforehand to ensure seamless two-person synergy.

The weather on shoot day was wonderful, with brilliant sunshine casting sparkling ripples across the water's surface. For our first set of shots, we stood waist-deep in the pool, utilizing high-speed shutter bursts to freeze splashing water droplets mid-air. Raising our arms simultaneously, splashes erupted before the lens; juxtaposed against vivid pops of yellow, pink, and blue, the visual impact sparked instantly. Movement submerged in water is inherently constrained, so maintaining balance meant supporting each other beneath the surface—which organically lent our interactions genuine warmth. While water splashing onto our faces risked disturbing base foundation, using high-performance waterproof cosmetics thankfully kept touch-ups to a minimum.

For the second setup, we shifted to the poolside, where costume nuances and stocking textures could shine with greater clarity. I perched atop the pink-and-white swim ring while my partner sat along the edge of the blue-tiled coping. Due to water buoyancy, the swim ring kept drifting, requiring considerable time to calibrate posture and find stable contact points to stretch our leg lines gracefully. The pairing of long leg lines with over-the-knee White stockings looked exceptionally soft beneath the sun. Once dampened, the translucent white fabric clung softly against the skin, delivering a remarkably unique texture. To preserve a clean aesthetic, we timed water splashes to kick up just beside our feet—a dynamic capture that tested the photographer's burst-prediction skills while challenging camera autofocus amid complex surface glares.

Finally, we returned to the shallow wading area holding both swim rings for close-up portraits. The vibrant water slides in the background were smoothly softened with a wide aperture, pulling the focal point entirely back onto the subjects. Soaking in water for extended hours burned far more stamina than expected, punctuated by a funny little mishap when a swim ring drifted away and had to be quickly retrieved. This shoot involved meticulous coordination from styling to on-site blocking. Although the summer sun was dazzling and wet wigs grew heavy, completing this body of work in the water was completely worth every drop of effort.
