I finally received the Convention photos from today's anime convention for Emilia, so I quickly retouched a few selects to share! This time I cosplayed Emilia from Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-—the beloved EMT. Wearing this ensemble properly is actually an intricate task. The top features a sleeveless bustier bodice with an open back and exposed shoulders, making undergarment selection paramount to avoid disrupting the garment's clean silhouette lines. The neckline is designed as a detached mandarin collar, paired with a neck cord whose emerald pendant rests right across the décolletage. The most striking element is undoubtedly the sleeves: the voluminous bell sleeves offer wonderful drape, edged in gathered purple ruffles and embellished at the lower hem with violet and gold paneled embroidery motifs. During shooting, hand movements heavily depended on these expansive sleeves to build visual scale—lifting the cuffs or fanning them outward looks infinitely better than standing idle. Because the textile is overwhelmingly white, it easily blew out under studio strobes; thus, we repeatedly adjusted our light stands to preserve textural shadows in the garment pleats.
The lower half consists of a tiered white pleated skirt paired with over-the-knee White stockings, cinched at the thigh with a slender black strap accent, completed with white heeled ankle booties. Navigating the convention hall all day in these heels was sheer agony on the feet, yet the moment the camera pointed my way, I had to grit my teeth and lock my posture upright for flattering proportions. While over-the-knee socks are gorgeous, specular glare can easily widen leg lines in convention halls; I paid strict attention to leg orientation and light refraction angles, using shadows to sculpt smooth definition.
The wig was a straight silver-white style with blunt bangs and side braids. The Elf ears prop serves as the defining soul of the character; each time, I meticulously seal the edges using skin wax and spirit gum for a seamless blend. Cosmetically, to complement the violet-blue contact lenses, the eye makeup was blended with soft rose-pink gradients to ensure facial features stayed sculpted under the hall's chaotic lights. Halfway through the session, the wig tips began tangling, requiring a quick comb-out with detangling serum to keep the remaining frames silky smooth.
The physical space was quite confined, flanked by light stands, tripods, and passing crowds. While seated on the carpet, I carefully calibrated the angle of my crossed legs to showcase the texture of the White stockings while ensuring the skirt drape avoided wardrobe malfunctions. In one bust close-up, the photographer instructed me to reach one arm forward toward the lens, using my fingertips to lead the viewer's gaze and deepen interactive tension—the final result was deeply satisfying.
Convention photography often demands the art of subtraction. In post-production, we dimmed and blurred the background while shifting color temperature toward a cooler, desaturated slate-gray, allowing the crisp white attire and silver tresses to pop with striking contrast. The core difference between convention halls and private studios is the lack of environmental control, yet that very unpredictability infuses the imagery with authentic presence. Cosplay is never just about slipping into garments; it requires embodying a character's demeanor, harmonizing breath and posture, and immersing oneself completely into that reality. Though curating convention photo sets is exhausting, capturing those breathtaking shutter moments makes every ounce of effort worthwhile. That wraps up this share; new characters are already in the works, and I hope you all enjoy the photos!
