For these Convention photos, the post-processing mainly involved converting to a muted grayscale palette to suppress cluttered ambient lighting and create cleaner transitions between highlights and shadows, accentuating a cold and gritty temperament. Since the convention venue's overhead lighting and background strip lights introduced a lot of color noise, I adjusted the contrast slightly while preserving the raw texture of the skin and clothing.
The most challenging elements of the outfit were the corset and the high-slit long skirt; the lacing tension was just right without being overly restrictive. To complement the high slit, I prepared over-the-knee Black stockings and red-soled stiletto heels. Posing required careful attention because balancing in stilettos while holding the weight of a long sword is tricky. The third shot, in particular—a profile pose kneeling with one leg raised—required grounding my center of gravity firmly to elongate the leg lines through the slit and exposed thigh. The combination of Black stockings and red-soled heels formed a striking visual focal point against the dark tones.
For equipment, a prime lens paired with low-angle shots was used primarily to elongate the lower-body proportions. I also studied proper grips for the prop blade to align with combat postures from 2D settings, strictly controlling the tip angle whether standing or glancing back over the shoulder. As the skirt swayed, its backlit silhouette became crucial. The leather components were quite reflective, so we avoided direct frontal light to keep facial shadows soft. The black eyepatch not only blocked sight but also required aligning the gaze direction to convey a chilling aura.
While I initially wanted more dynamic action poses, the convention venue was crowded with limited space, so we mostly settled on fixed-angle static framing. In post-production, I experimented with color grading—making ambient blue-violet cold lights cooler while keeping skin tones slightly warm—ensuring the subject stood out without the grayscale feeling rigid. When envisioning the ambiance, the priority was capturing the character's crisp decisiveness. The sword, metal-buckled corset, and lace gloves inherently added textural layers, so rather than using fancy filters, we focused on high-contrast monochrome tones. I'm quite satisfied with the outcome. If I cosplay this character again, I might try a more dynamic approach, capturing moments of the skirt swirling or wind catching the long hair for a more fluid feel.
