[Rei Ayanami cosplay] Amidst Stacked CRTs and Cables: The Alienation of the Mass-Produced Type - Image 2

When deciding to shoot this theme for the mass-produced type cosplay photoshoot, the core demand was to create a strong sense of replication and mechanical nature. The dense cables, stacked old-style CRT monitors, and the dim electronic blue light in the photos all exist to fit this setting. We spent a lot of energy building this practical set filled with industrial ruins flavor, wanting to recreate a sense of technology with real weight, rather than purely relying on post-processing special effects to composite it.

Wearing this high-elasticity black bodysuit on the day of the shoot, the material was very form-fitting, and combined with the square illuminated floor platform beneath my feet, the reflection of light on the floor was very sharp, heavily testing the display of body lines. This light grey-blue short straight wig was specially trimmed with layers by the hairstylist, and paired with the small black hair accessories on both sides, it can nicely outline the character's lightness when viewed from the side. The reason why five versions of me appeared in the frame simultaneously is to materialize the core concept of "mass production." We spent a long time adjusting positions and centers of gravity, keeping the central main body in a front-facing posture that gives a sense of pressure while looking straight into the lens, while the four clones around made subtle staggered arrangements in height, position, and posture, presenting a group portrait composition that is both unified and alienated.

The physical environment of the shooting site was actually quite crowded. Most of those thick black cables hanging from the ceiling had real weight, and some were even connected to the old electronic equipment in the background. Walking among these cables and fixing poses while wearing high heels required extreme caution. In terms of controlling light and shadow, we adopted the bottom white light panel as the main light source, and then used those lit display screens in the background to supplement the cold-toned face light. This intertwining illumination of warm and cool tones avoided heavy shadows on the character's face, while allowing the bodysuit's material to present a texture similar to leather and industrial rubber, perfectly fitting the Cyberpunk cosplay atmosphere of the entire environment.

When shaping this image with accurate Anime-style makeup, instead of a strong external display of emotion, I preferred to restrain all inner feelings. Staring straight ahead expressionlessly actually better reflects the character's weightless alienation like an object. The red and black line decorations on the outfit serve as a great visual accent color amid the massive grey, black, and white backdrop, constituting a minimalist color block distribution. When doing expression management, I deliberately kept a relaxed state with slightly drooping eyelids, ensuring the gaze didn't have too much focus, so that even in front of the camera, it could showcase a self-enclosed state undisturbed by the surrounding environment.

This photoset from early art setting, scene construction, to lighting and camera angle scheduling, down to the final framing design, could not be done without the seamless cooperation of every staff member in the team. Working with my partners to handle those messy cables and moving the heavy CRT displays to designated stacking positions made us sweat a lot, but seeing the final image in the viewfinder brought immense satisfaction through this immersive creative experience. I really enjoy this process of conveying emotions in a specific space through the interweaving of character body language, scenes, and props.
