Selecting this Raiden Mei photoshoot taken on the duplex staircase at home, I wanted to stay as close as possible to the character's cool and serene traits from outfit choice to emotional expression. The short white jacket and long deep blue wig visually form a very clean contrast between warm and cool tones. The tailoring of this costume highly tests body proportions; the off-the-shoulder and arm cutout design, paired with black straps and a choker, perfectly showcases the collarbone and neck-and-shoulder lines. The detached sleeves, along with the layered belt buckles and star decorations at the waist, are the core details of this look. To capture these photos well, just organizing that long straight deep blue wig took a substantial amount of time. Under warm indoor lighting, straight hair easily generates static electricity and frizz, requiring repeated styling spray and combing to ensure the bangs and sideburn arcs perfectly frame the face without interfering with my vision.

During the shoot, the wooden steps and transparent glass handrail added great depth of field and layers to the frame. The light filtering down from the tassel globe pendant light overhead, combined with our extra side-backlight fill, made the facial features look sharp and three-dimensional. When composing the shots, we intentionally utilized the glass railing, which not only added depth but also provided a support point for the body. For instance, in the shots sitting on the steps, with hands naturally resting on the glass handrail or crossed over the knees, the goal was not only to elongate the leg lines and showcase the texture of the stockings and Martin boots, but also to convey that state of the character where she looks calm yet hides a sharp edge underneath. The choice of black stockings made the legs look exceptionally slender and crisp in the frame, while the platform Martin boots brought a steady sense of weight to the character.

During the shoot, I paid special attention to controlling my expressions, intentionally holding back sweet expressions, keeping my facial muscles relaxed with a flat lip line to let my gaze exude a sense of alertness and distance. Many people tend to interpret this type of character as overly weak or soft, but she actually leans more toward being capable and heroic, so I tried my best to maintain a supportive feel in my postures without looking slouched or limp. For example, that backward glance standing at the edge of the second floor, or leaning slightly forward against the railing, intentionally maintained a straight spine to display a nimble and athletic posture.

Because it was shot in an indoor home environment, how to shoot an everyday staircase scene with a different feel heavily relied on interaction with environmental props. The modern feel of the transparent glass and the warm wooden steps formed a material clash, so I specially coordinated with this modern home environment without adding too many exaggerated special effects, keeping the frame clean and restrained. The color tone of the original photos wasn't excessively adjusted either, mainly making micro-adjustments to the white balance to let the skin tone look natural while highlighting the pure white and royal blue of the costume, making the overall image colors more refreshing and unified.

This gear features many patchworks of white outerwear and internal materials. To ensure it wouldn't look bulky or wrinkled when worn, it took a lot of effort to organize it during dress-up. The metallic star accessories at the waist are very exquisite, but they are indeed somewhat heavy; during the shoot, I had to try my best to keep my expressions relaxed while constantly keeping an eye on the range of motion to avoid snagging the fabric. After finishing the part on the stairs, we also chose a combination of the french window and blue curtains to take some standing portraits, which added practical utility to the photo set and displayed the look from multiple angles. Overall, this Honkai Impact 3rd cosplay photoshoot experience was exceptionally rich. Through the clash of this anime-style fashion and scene, I hope to convey the core traits of the character: independence, determination, and a slight sense of detachment.
