The convention photos from Comicup 29 are finally out! This candid shot by photographer Ask truly showcases the details of this Language of Flowers dress to the fullest. This time I chose a derivative look for Rei Ayanami. The short blue hair paired with a black lace headband is a departure from her original cold image; this black-and-purple gradient backless dress adds a touch of softness and mystery.

The starry sky glitter on the skirt hem and the layered lace ruffles gleam with delicate luster under the sunlight. During the shoot, we specifically looked for a railing area with geometric architectural lines, utilizing natural light to express the translucent texture of the gauze fabric. Although the anime convention was heavily crowded, the photographer did an excellent job of avoiding the cluttered background, locking the focus right on the character's expression and the costume structure.

This outfit's halter-neck design and the bow ties at the back demand a lot regarding posture. To keep the neck and shoulder lines elongated and relaxed, I kept adjusting my angles throughout the shoot. The lighting on-site changed very rapidly; the harsh light of midday and the side-backlight of the afternoon each had their own characteristics. This time, I chose several different standing and sitting poses, trying my best to present the layered texture of the skirt hem during movement.

I used to frequently wear Rei Ayanami's plugsuit, so trying this western-style dress with flower elements this time makes me feel like another side of the character has been uncovered. I really look forward to having the opportunity to shoot a more complete official photoshoot in the future, blending the theme of Language of Flowers and the setting more deeply. Every cosplay is a re-understanding of the character and a process of co-creation with the photography team.
