[Hoshino cosplay] Summer Blue Archive, a refreshing white crop top Convention photo

Although the venue AC was cranked up in August, the crowded hall and heat from shooting lights were still a bit overwhelming. To deal with the muggy summer heat, when selecting costumes this time, I specifically avoided the character's original heavier default layers, opting instead for a lightweight casual Summer outfit better suited for the venue atmosphere—this refreshing combo of a white ruffled cropped camisole and shorts shown in the photos.

The outerwear is a loose light blue shirt, casually draped over my shoulders rather than buttoned up, which blocks direct UV rays while making the overall color layering feel crisp and bright. The ahoge on my head and those sunglasses propped up are the finishing touches, retaining the character's cute traits while adding a touch of summer vacation relaxation. The white platform sandals on my feet were also ideal for standing and jumping over long hours, helping me maintain great physical energy all day long.

The most enjoyable part of this shoot was interacting with props. That huge blue-and-white inflatable whale balloon was a real head-turner; navigating through crowds with it took some muscle, but during jumping poses, it served as the ultimate interactive partner for the scene. When taking this shot, I happened to be standing on one leg with arms raised high, my body's center of gravity completely stretched for an instant, creating an incredibly freeing feeling. The pink neon halo prop above my head was another key element prepared on site; fixed in mid-air via a stand, it formed a glowing halo effect directly above my head, maxing out compositional balance and fantasy aesthetic.

Tremendous thanks to the photographer I collaborated with, Ramen-sensei. As seen in his style, he excels at leveraging the venue ceiling's high lighting combined with softbox equipment on site, avoiding harsh blown-out whites while rendering skin tones translucent and even. You can clearly see how natural the light and shadow transitions are on my face, bringing out warm skin textures fully. This clean, focused lighting treatment is exactly what we need during Convention photography—restoring character and atmosphere authentically without requiring tedious post-processing filters. The low-angle and subtle high-angle shots were also handled expertly, highlighting leg proportions without clipping my contours out of frame.

Indeed, a great Convention photo severely tests a photographer's crowd management and candid snapshot skills. Surrounded by cluttered environments and heavy foot traffic, finding clean backgrounds and prime lighting within an industrial-looking venue in short order is no easy feat. The grey-toned background processing in this photo is particularly clever—broad monochrome grey tones tone down the industrial feel while highlighting my blue jacket, pink wig, and white inner layer. The visual contrast at the center feels very comfortable, drawing eyes immediately to the subject.

Although the weather was sweltering, the shoot process was delightful. The final result feels crisp and clean, preserving the character's lively nature while incorporating my own personal interpretation of this look. I hope this refreshing summer visual effect brings a bit of cool breeze in this sultry season.
